Exclamation American Made, Really?

Many of you have been riding for many years. Some of you may have rode many different motorcycles, I know I have. How many of you have been told you can't ride with them, or their clubs, because the bike you ride is not American made? That being said, which motorcycle is truely American made? Harley-Davidson use to boast that it was the true American motorycle. Have you been to a Harley shop lately, what does "China" spell?
So, which motorcycle can really claim it is the true American motorcycle? Does being assembled in America qualify for that spot of honor in today's America?
These are some of the manufacturers who call themselves American motorcyles: Riddley, Harley-Davidson, Big Dog, Indian, and our beloved Victory. When calling and asking the question of what percentage of your motorcycle is American made, to include componants, they will tell you, "we don't track that", but we make quality products. Really? Can't Japanese, Germans, and Itallian manufacturers claim the same thing?
So, when you say you ride American, you might consider pausing and thinking, do I really?
Anyone who can truely identify with facts which motorcycle is really American made, please do so. The manufacturers won't. Which bike should we call the American made motorcycle today?

To a lot of people American made is a company whose profit goes back into the American economy.

Good example is Hyundai is starting an American made campaign because some of their cars are built in the US now like the new Sonata. That is true and they are luckily employing American workers BUT that money goes back to Korea's economy.

Good point. The fuss about "american made" is not due to the extremely high quality of american made products, but more involved with the concept of who are you supporting when you purchase the product. Are you supporting the economy of which you are part of, or are you supporting someone else's economy?

So, the question remains, who is really supporting America when it comes to "American Made" motorcycles. Don't you think, we the customer, need to know which motorcycle manufacturer is really supporting us, Americans, when it comes to our rides? It's time for all who claim to be American made motorcycles to MAN-UP and tell us the facts!

There are no true 100% American made motorcycle.

According to Barbers Museum HD's are 80% American made while The Honda Goldwing and VTX's are 85% American made. But Honda closed their motorcycle plants in 09. The bikes that are for sale now are:
Goldwing made up to 09 (including the 2010 models)
1800 vtx up to 08
1300 vtx up to 09

Haven't read or seen any information on the Victory motorcycles yet.

So If you are looking for a 100% American made motorcycle you need to get busy and build it. I would hate to see it's cost.

Default American Made???

WE should say American assembled or built in American. But not American made. I do believe the vision frames and motor are made here cause it cheaper and closer then being made over there. At one time there was a duty tax so some of the foreign bikes had the motors sent here with just a bottom end and then the rest of the motor was put together here to beat taxs. Harley got that bill pass when the jap bikes were starting to take the market away from them. Haley has had a jap front end since the 70's the plastic parts are made in Wi. and there cylinder heads and cylinders are made in minnesota. I do think victory does have a lot of American parts but where made who knows.

Actually the HD forks and shocks are made buy the same company that Honda's do. I can not spell it correctly but it's Shoi .

Nothing is I made in America completely any more.

Yes, Assembled by Americans is a better way of saying it.

I went to Victory for that reason plus I like the looks/ride of the XC.

Harley can keep their attitude.
If they want to sell me a bike they need to show it and not mark it up by 1,000-2,000 dollars over retail.

Even my lawn mowers frame was made in America and was assembled by Americans. Gravely

Acording to the EPA American made requires 72% domestic content. That content number is a little funny though as it includes engineering, and assembly. This is why we see so many design and engineering studios here along with assembly plants

Understand that the front end of our X models are made overseas (don't know where) as well as the electronics.

Where does it say that?

Please add your bike's year and model to your signature. Here's why.

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!
