Default just a need to know question.

why is it that my 92 cu inch 04 vegas took 6 qts of oil. My 06 100 cu inch kp took 4.5 qts and my current 08 106 cu inch vision takes 5 qts. I was just reading the mobil 1 thread and this just got me to wondering. Couldnt help but wonder why they didnt stick with 6 qts if it would cool and lube better. I am no mechanic or oil guru by any stretch so please be gentle if you think this is a stupid topic. Thanks.

If you listen to the guy who does the Harley vs Victory engine comparison videos, it's because the original design actually took too long to heat up all the oil to operating temperature. People using them for short hops to work or to the local tavern never got the engines hot enough to burn off internal condensation which can lead to rust and corrosion.

all 3 replies sound good to me. when ever i told people the 04 took 6 qts they all were like holly crap. i for one am glad to see less in the newer models. the change kits are cheaper.

It is easy. Early engines/transmissions took 6 total quarts of oil. More recent engine/transmissions hold 5 quarts of oil but an oil and filter change leaves behind a pint or so of oil which means you only need to add 4.5 quarts of oil with a change. Recognizing this, Victory offers two different oil change kits. One has 6 quarts of oil and the other has 4.5 quarts of oil.
