Default Luggage Solutions?

As I scratched my head trying to figure out how to load up the Judge for the Digby Wharf Rat rally at the end of the month one thing became clear, I need a luggage solution.

I'm not sure what way I want to go. I like the look on no bags...or i would have bought a bagger. Everything from ma Vic is so dammned expensive. No way am i paying $800 for Vic quick release bags. Sissy bar bag is all I reeeeeeeally need, and the missus would appreciate the back rest....but again i don't like the look of a permanent seat...quick release seat is like $400 and is kind of ugly.

Basically all i want are some universal throw over bags...or a sissy bar/back rest rig of some sort. Problem is I'm not sure how to keep the bags in place. Is there a bracket i can get cheap that will keep my bags out of the tire/belt danger zone? I haven't been able to find an aftermarket source...and i get kind of confused on theVic website looking for Judge appropriate stuff...not sure what works with what. Then I get frustrated with the price and am back to square one.

So if i go the sissy bar route how hard and what would the approx cost be of fabbing a bracket for the one I want? (I obviously dont have metal working skills so I would have to find a third party to do it). I have seen a Vic (Judge even) on the "other forum" that had this one modded to fit;

Its the Kuryakyn Transformer and seems to fit my needs (except for needing a powder coating)...Or should I go with a straight up sissy bar looking thing like this (kind of like the simple look best);

So basically I just need to know how difficult it's gonna be to fit a non-oem backrest...oooooor fitment for "universal" bags. I think (as much as the missus would like it) if it wasn't a quick release backrest I would lean more towards universal throw over bags.

What would you guys do in my shoes...bags or sissy bar? Any advice would be appreciated.

I didn't want bags on my VTX when I had it.
So I got the ridged mount backrest and notched it to be removed by just loosening the mounting screws.
Then I got a set of ghost bracket for the saddle bags and put the mounts on the side arms of the backrest.
Then I bolted on a set of Saddlemen throw over bags with ridged backs.
Worked out great. I cant find my pics of the build.

Yes, you can buy saddlebag support brackets that will keep the bags away from the "danger zones". Saddleman has some adjustable ones, I'm sure that there are others.

To me, that Kuryakyn Transformer looks terribly uncomfortable...cool idea though!

Ya comfort was probably the last thing i was thinking about...i dont ride two up too often. Only really want one so i can strap a large bag on to her...

I will look into adjustable mounts. I'ill probably just get a reasonably priced set of bags. My roof for bags is like $300 - so the $800 Vic ones are way out of the question - I have never seen a set of soft bags I would even consider to be worth $800 bucks. That's friggin ridiculous.

Anyone know how fast the shipping is for Viking bags? They have well proced options...that'll be my route i think. Also, anyone know which model fits the Judge? I think its the Vegas that has the same mount...but I'm not sure at the moment.

But again, I may have read that wrong, but viking bags aren't quick release are they?

Well just got back from the Rally bag worked wonders...you need to buy your own rain cover but for aq $150 bag I can afford a 20 rain cover from the outdoor store. I give it 4.5 out of 5, half star if they included the rain cover.
