Default Radio Update

This is supposed to be conducted annually. Since it's a software update, that no doubt means a trip to the dealership. Who has had this done? What if anything changed/was improved? What was the cost?

How do you know about a radio update and what does it do?

Chapter 1 of the service manual mentions the annual update. It then refers you to chapter 19 for more information. However, when I went through ch 19, I have not come across anything else regarding the update.
