Default What Is This On My Engine?

I was just looking over my bike and I noticed this shiny silver spot on my black engine which looks like it has had something removed from it and now there is an exposed thread so I am worried about rust and what (if anything) is missing.

Hear from you guys soon!

That is where the battery ground connects on a cross bike. Nothing fell off it an unused bolt hole on steel frame bikes.

OMG- you have lost the thermal differential inter-spatial hierarchy for linear engine cohesion dohickey. Do not ride that until you replace it.

Just kidding. I put a p-clip and routed the alt wire thru it to clean it up.

What is the best bolt to go in it? I don't want water to sit in it.

This might sound silly but is that US spec or would it be the same M6 in the UK?

Correct, m6 x 1, I had an 8mm long one and I ground a bit off to make it fit without bottoming out. I would also suggest just a small dab of never seize on the threads to help prevent corrosion between the aluminum case and steel fastener. This is an area that could get fairly wet, and water could get in the hole even with a bolt in it.
