Default E3 Multi-Compound News

I call BS on the part about how he had the old ones giving him ER flashbacks as I can get better lean angle from my XR than I ever got out of a Gold Wing and I never had the orginal single compound feel dicey, but for those interested in the multi-compound:

I think we are reading it differently. I'm taking him to say that the old ones gave subtle warnings when he pushed hard in the turns but had good performance. The new ones however allowed him to lean so far down in the turn that he got ER flashbacks. To me, he praised the old E3 but feels the new one really is better. He could have worded it a bit better in my opinion.

Default lighter too???

at almost 5 lb heavier than my 240-40-18 night dragon i have waiting the dunlop E-3 are way heavy, metzlers that wear similar to E-3 are 4 lb lighter, no dunrocks for me!!!

Rodhotter, you sure have better luck than I have had in the past with Metzlers. I never got close to the milage out of a Metzler that I got with an E-3. Yes, the Metzler handles well, but so does the E-3s plus better milage. - Mike

Now you can get E3 multi compound tires after I bought the Michelin Comanders.........

These new Michelin are spooky in the rain. Just a touch of the back brake has the ABS going nuts.
Painted road surfaces are just like ice.
I can spin the rear just by rolling into the throttle in 2nd gear.
These are the spookiest tire I ever rode on.

I want E3s back.....

I put an avon on the rear of mine, I will never run the E3 again.

Why didn't you like them?
I noticed they made some noise in the twisty stuff but they seemed to stick pretty good.

Dunlops for one are smaller then advertised so your speedo/odo will generally run fast, it did in my case. On a firm roll on the throttle from a stop it would just spin, in the rain it wouldnt stick very well in curves, like cloverleave on/off ramps, painted sections on roads were spooky, especially when wet, say from a stop sign/light it would tend to spin on take off, get squirrely in a turn, and set off the abs prematurely. Now with the avon on the rear on the same type cloverleaf when wet it will push the front dunlop around because the avon sticks and the dunlop doesnt.

Pretty Happy with my Avon Cobras on my XC with 6,000 miles on them .. If they last 10,000+ Plus with the same traction they are giving now, will probably keep running them ..

Having the Dunlops installed while the dealer is waiting for my new cylinder head to come in. Hope to get better mileage out of the rear with the Multi tread design. They were very noisy at about 8,000 miles. Never a problem in rain or grip, but tar snakes were eye opening.
