Default Side mount license plate

Would 10 gauge steel be to thick for a license plate side mount?? I still have to add a spacer to get it away from the swingarm but didn't know if the nut would have enough threads to screw on. Has anyone used 10 gauge steel??

on my V rod it is aluminum on a hinge it swings out and in. pain in the ass . sometimes I will hit it getting off it is mounted on the left side pl.jpg
