The seats that are effected are The Jackpot Touring Seat with Backrest PN: 2875961-01 and the Kingpin Leather Touring Seat with Backrest PN: 2876641-01. The recall notice goes on to explain the problem and says that you should not ride with this seat .It says that Your Authorized Victory Dealer should start receiving the parts to make the repair AFTER 11/01/2011. They go on to tell you to contact your dealer after that date. I will be doing so. If you have any questions feel free to contact me
Hey Miker, since you offered...
I have a 2005 Kingpin but I'm not the original owner & I live in TX. My bike has a Mustang 2-up seat, but the passenger backrest appears NOT to Mustang (I think its Victory). Since you are in NJ and my bike supposedly came from NJ - Seaside or Oceanside Victory(?) (dealer no longer in business) - and you offered...

I got a letter from Victory HQ several weeks ago regarding this recall. The letter stated the dealers would begin replacement in Nov 2011, so I have some time and rarely carry a passenger. What I'm confused about is the photos Victory has in the recall letter do not show the same passenger backrest as mine. I called our local Victory dealer and they didn't even know about the recall and stated they had no info on it yet! I don't want to stress over this, but if my passenger backrest is defective, I want it replaced! I'm wondering why I got the letter containing serial numbers that apparently belong with my bike if I don't have the effected backrest? Did everyone within those model years get a recall notice or just certain ones? Why have they made this so confusing? It is possible that the original owner used a combination of Victory & Mustang seat parts to finish out the job. It just adds to the confusion for me. What's your take on this?

Called dealer on Friday 11/4/11. They have not received the parts from Vic yet, but are making a list. They will call when they have the parts to perform the fix.

Only backrest that applies is the ones mounted on the single piece dual backrest touring seat. None of the other rests have the issue.

I'm not an asshole...I just type that way

OK, I'm pretty thickheaded For folks like me that excel when pictures are used; what exactly is "the single piece dual backrest touring seat"? I am not the original owner of my bike. It came from another state far away and the seat has been changed. But, I have no idea if the backrest is original or not. Is it possible they could have kept the backrest frame and put a different cushion on it? My bike has had the headlight changed and windshield changed as well as lots of chrome added. All parts are Victory parts, but from different models and/or years. Is there a way to walk up to one of the effected bikes and tell if it has a suspect seat & backrest or does the seat have to come off first? Does anyone have a photo or a good way to tell if I/we have the defective backrest on our bike? The photo Victory sent me looks nothing like what is on my bike, but I've seen other Kingpins that have the same seats & backrests as mine, so my seat is not unique.
What I'm looking for is:
THIS IS WHAT A BAD PART LOOKS LIKE
THIS IS WHAT A GOOD PART LOOKS LIKE.

Victory sent the letters out to folks with certain serial numbers, so I can only assume that my bike had this defective part on it at one time or maybe it's still there. I'm not seeing any competent guidance from the dealer (maybe Victory hasn't trained dealers), so I'm still guessing about this...

OK I'll make this simple for you. If you have a Mustang seat you can not possibly have the affected backrest

Default Another backrest recall

Just received a notice in the mail recalling 2010-2014 VICTORY LOCK & RIDE BACKREST/LUGGAGE RACK.

The alert says to return your Passenger backrest/luggage rack to your dealer for new (up-graded) units. (Passenger backrests which have never had the luggage rack installed onto them are NOT affected.)
These units are only found on "Cross" bikes and Hard-Ball models.

I would like to know how to tell a old one from a new/improved one if buying used.
