Just read in my UK bike paper (mcn) that Indian is already out selling Victory in the show rooms lets hope Polaris do not abandon their first born in favour of their new wonder child.

london Britain 2011 Hammer S Vic st1 Loydz airbox fuel controller and ATW Banidt seat conquest custom engine covers chamfered footrests and MSD coils progressive rear shock.

The top 2 American motorcycle names in competition again. Good for Polaris. Victory holds it's own though. The bike magazines continuously praise Victory Cross bikes for their engineering, comfort, and power. Compared to the other 2 it is the better bike IMO.

Ah, Dr. Watson, that's an easy one to deduce. There already exists a large quantity of Victory owners who are satisfied with their previous purchases, I being one. Whilst there are no Indian owners other than those currently purchasing these recently released machines. I suspect that, in the near future, these initial sales will taper off as the market becomes more saturated. Then we will see which brand is the sales leader.

Good points Ric.

As I previously said in another post, I can’t see Indian outselling Victory in Australia. The Australian consumer usually cares about price, and if the product is relatively similar (between Victory and Indian, so excluding the Harley legacy) the cheaper one will be more popular (unlike say Europe where branding is everything e.g. clothes). From what I can gather I think that outside of the USA the riding community isn’t so Harley loyal as it seems to be in the USA, so we are more open to try similar products. Sadly that’s why the Victory executives always say “they have been disappointed with Victory sales in the USA”, but worldwide sales are doing very well. Am I right?

I love the Indian range and I hope to get one one day to complement my Hammer.

Kris, I tend to march to a different drummer. In high school, whatever the fad was, I would avoid it. No sheep me. Requiring a lower seat height, I was forced into buying a cruiser, a style of bike I never liked, and would not consider a Harley due to their popularity for one reason or another. Fortunately, Victory broke out the Cross bikes at the right moment and now I have the cruiser that a cruiser hater can love.
Americans appreciate a bargain too and an equivalent Victory sells for less than a Harley, hence some sales. What Polaris is fighting are the traditionalists, the groupies and the wannabes that the H-D culture has cultivated. Vic's 15 years against the MoCo's 110. Considering that alone, I think Vic is doing nicely here, not great, but OK. Back to me, I like that I am usually the only one riding in to a group on a victory. Its fun watching the H-D guy's reactions.

Yeah, one of the main reasons I bought a Victory was also because its not a Harley- they are a dime a dozen here...which bores the crap out of me

I also bought my Vic cause I wanted to be different than my HD buddies... Nothing like showing up for a ride and everyone is gathered around my HB while it is surrounded by Hardley Davidsons!

While Love Both My Victory's totally agree with you Indian Sales will taper off as the New Kid on the Block with more availability and more commonplace in the Showroom .. But my money is 2-3 years time Indian will outsell Victory although Victory will still have a loyal following just in less quantity ..

The Big Poobah at Polaris said in a recent interview that there are big changes coming for the Victory line. He said no more than that. In terms of marketing, yes Victorys have to sell to a different clientele than does Indian. So expect future Victory models to not overlap those of Indian. I think H-D's Street bikes are a wake up call and might influence future Vic models.
You may be right that Indian will outsell Vic, especially if future Vics are not what they are now. After all, Indian is specializing in cruiser baggers, the most popular bike sold, and it would be foolish for Polaris to produce and market two CB lines. This is becoming a very interesting spectator sport.
