Default Used engine and ECU ?

I posted this in the tech section however I'm not sure how many read through that section.....As noted in the other thread my engine may be toast. Does anyone know if the ECU needs to be replaced as well? IE, I heard the ECU is now matched up to the motor. IF this is the case and I find a good motor do I need to obtain the ECU from that bike as well?

Disregard.. Vicbuilder answered my question. Anyone aware of a late model engine with low miles for sale?

If you give me enough money you can have the engine out of my Vision and I will use it to buy a new 2014 Vision.
The best answer I saw was a suggestion that you get an upgrade in the form of a 116 kit for about what a new/used engine will cost.

yup and the tear down will be done tonight and I will know what I'm up against. I have found Motors from 2012 and 2013 bikes with low miles so if needed I can go that route as well.

Regardless of what is wrong it shouldnt have happened on an engine with 31,000 miles. Reliability is a key factor in buying a touring bike. At this low mileage it really is unaceptable. Keeping track of my last several bikes this is not by far the least reliable in down time but it is the worst in dynamics. IE, my wing sat in the shop for months at a time with elec problems however it was still useable. And yes chit happens but non the less, I lost some warm fuzzies.

With a typical 2yr warranty and sometimes 5yr, you apparently are outside the warranty period on a 2012? Or, have you made engine mods? Bummer either way.

Kingpin. 2 year warranty ran out last Oct. As much as the cost to repair is a bummer its the relibility factor that bothers me. Hopefully this will be the last time this happens. If not I'll need to buy another bike (Vic) and start over.

I had an October end to my 2 yr warranty also. Shop found oil leak during 10k check and replaced o-ring that was mis-installed at factory. Hope you're up and running without to much pain($$$).
