The exchange rate is around .0197 so the Street Bob is just over $18K and the Super Glide around $20K.

Doesn't surprise me ! Harley is in the business of selling bikes so lower prices will sell more..IDK if people in India are really going to care that they are not made in America ! And sucks that there goes more job over seas!!

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Actually, given the increasing wealth of Asia, a potentially great business move and I wouldn't be surprised to see Polaris do something similar.

They are making them in India for sale in India. I'm not aware of a large market for liter-bike sales there.

In my line of work I've had the opportunity to meet a lot of Indian people. I've yet to meet any macho types sporting tattoos and bandannas, but maybe they're out there.

My guess is that if Harley finds they can do a good job of making the bikes cheaply and efficiently there, that's where that model will be made exclusively in the future. According to a Harley sales guy here in town, Softails and Touring bikes are far better selling bikes than Dynas.

Harley turf, really?

It's actually a good marketing move for HD. Not only does it get them more vsibility but it will also generate a lot more revenue for them. By shipping "kits" to India they get the bikes assembled for less than 1/4 the labor cost that they would spend in the US. This allows them to sell many more bikes which keeps their parts production workers employed.

In a way it is outsourcing but it is for bikes that will be sold exclusively in India so it will not affect their "Made in America" image.

As far as leather wearing, tattoed, bad ass Indian bikers go there may be some but HD should not create more of the stereotype we know as "bikers" in India. Motorcycles are a wise form of transportation in a country with severe traffic congestion problems. Whereas in the North America motorcycles are part lifestyle / part recreational vehicles so the buyers (for the most part) come from a completely different demographic.
