The part that I didn't like is the battery life is approximately 9 hours because no one would ride longer than that. I do that a lot. Just went on an 18 hour 770 mile trip just tooling around the back roads of West Virginia.

I'm sure you can plug it in on your fuel and food breaks. My Sena headsets can gain a lot of charge during rest stops.

This is popping up on every board I'm on. I like the basic idea of it but have a number of issues with it.

1) $1400 price tag. You can't put a price on safety but I CAN put a price on a disposable item. Helmets have a usable life span of 5-7 years (i typically toss mine around 4-5) before they are considered by the manufacturer to be unsafe. Not to mention that a helmet is only good for one impact. Drop that thing off your handlebars and there goes your 1400.

2) Unknown brand with unproven crash protection. Yes they passed DOT and ECE which demonstrates the helmet will protect you in a crash. But 1/2 helmets have also passed DOT and offer zero protection to face, back of the head, ears, etc. so the standards alone are not proof enough to me of the helmet's crash worthiness. Show me actual data from a third party test so I know my head is gonna still be intact if I take a hit

3) Distracting. I'd be ok with a HUD that shows speed, rpm, gear, and maybe even small icons indicating the next turn and distance to it. These are all things that the average rider is looking at regularly while riding and having that info in a HUD would eliminate the need to look down at gauges/gps. But the rearview is distracting as all hell. Even just watching the video I found myself paying as much or more attention to the rearview than the actual view. Yes it's helpful in certain circumstances (car not stopping behind you at a light for instance) and could potentially save a life, but that level of distraction could also cost many lives if someone is watching the view behind instead of looking at the car or corner ahead.

4) Weight. No where on the site is the weight of the helmet listed and while I haven't searched every thread I've been through the forum there and the question is repeatedly asked with no response. That implies (though certainly doesn't confirm) that this thing is going to weigh a lot (to be expected given all the electronics + battery). I dunno about you guys but a lot of weight bobbling around on my neck for extended periods does nothing to leave me feeling up for a long ride.

For any new tech there are always naysayers that are quick to point out the flaws while ignoring the benefits. I'm not trying to say that the idea or the execution is bad. I don't have one in hand to try it out so I can only speak based on the information I have. I would like very much to have a chance to ride with one and see what it's like, maybe I would change my mind about it. Until such an opportunity presents itself, I can't imagine spending that kind of money on an idea.

Good points. I wouldn't be worried about 2 simply because the DOT and ECE standards are from independent testing bodies. The half helmet testing they do is exactly that - half helmet - with the caveat that we all know: you get what you pay for and clearly if you buy a half helmet you consider only half of your head worth protecting.

x2 to this. Great ideas, I love that someone is innovating. And someday these may be common technologies in helmets.

But for the time being, I busted the budget on my Arai because of the quality and fit. This is about DOUBLE that price, ouchie!
