Default Brakes (Brembo)

Looking for a DIY for us guys with the Brembo calipers..vids, pics. Watched the witchdoctor vid for the newer vics but found nothing for the older bikes. can anyone help me out

i watched the witch doctor vid before chaging my pads since i am new to working on bikes. the vid is useless for old bikes as i found out.

older models have a different setup as far as the pins holding the calipers in. it took me 5 min to figure out how to take the pin out in the front brake.

the rear pin was a real pita to take out and a real ...real... real pita the ass to put back in as i had to reach under the muffler and through the rim to drive it back in.

once you drive the retainer pin in you have to be exact on the depth in order to put the cotter pin in.
taking the pads out and replacing was a breeze. the front pin was a snap to put in once i figured out how they were held in.

did i say the rear was a real mf'er ?

btw i did not tell you how to take the retaining pins out did i ?

front caliper...look at the rear top part of your caliper. you will see a pin going thru the caliper holding the pads in. behind the caliper housing you will see a small cotter pin holding the retaining pin in. pull the cotter pin out and then use pliers to pull the pin out using the nob on the end of the pin.

remove the pads and therear clips holding the pads in. note how the rear pins face as thay only go in one way.

rear brake ..the retaining pin is at the top front of the caliper . it removes and replaces the same way except you knock it out towards the tire vs pulling it out like the frontone does.

damn dude wish you would have taken a vid or pics...youd be like jesus on this forum. I guess no one who has bought an 07 and earlier vic has ever changed their pads, looking for info is like looking for that Malaysia airplane........

i am worse at using a computer than i am at working on a bike lol. i never thought to take pics and even if i did i have no idea how to post them.

its not really that bad once you figure out how to take the retaining pins out. i tried unscrewing them for a couple of minutes with no luck. i then went down to my local powersports store onlt 10 minutes away who was a victory dealer until a few months before i decided to change my brakes.

both mechanics there had no idea how to take the pins out with out looking at the bike. since i had driven my truck down ther i quickly decided it was a waste of time going and getting my bike as i figured i was as smart as they are.

i just kept turning the pin and felt a lil resistance occasionaly and heard a clicking sound. i finally saw a cotter pin peeking out behind the caliper housing . i pulled the cotter pin out and then pulled the pin out.

only took me about 5 minutes to pull the old pads and install the new ones once i figured out how to take the pin out.

the rear was a different story. after thinking about it now i believe my rear retaining pin is in backward. it should pull out instead of being knocked through towards the tire. it was a real pita to get the pin back in where i could slide the cotter pin into the retaining pin.

the whole job took about 25 min because most of it was figuring out how to take the pins out and putting the rear one back in. i think i can do it the next time in less than 10 minutes for both wheels.

if you decide to change your let me know if i can be of any help. maybe i can take a pic and txt it to you .

The WD front brake video also does not match well with my '13 Vision but knowing the principles involved in doing a pad replacement sure went a long way to ensuring my DIY brake pad replacement worked well for me. I used information from his rear brake and his front brake videos to have a flawless replacement of my front brake pads. Unless you expect 15 separate videos for each task, expect to need to improvise a bit. WD is not an owner manual and cannot be expected to give you a perfect step by step for your particular model. Instead expect him to give you the guidance needed to be successful. So far that is what he has given me for my '13 Vision. If you need more than that, maybe you should pay your local shop to do your work. I don't mean to be harsh but some people really should not be doing their own work.

Present ride - 2013 Victory Vision, black, ATW at +3, Lloydz air filter and adjustable intake, PC5, 30,xxx miles

i don't think you are being harsh at all. i did not mean to imply i have 2 lft hands when it comes to things mechanical.

i used to do most of my own repairs on cars and trucks in my younger days. heck i even rebuilt a motor once.

i quit working on them once every thing started being computerized on them.

this was my 1st time working on a bike and it was a pretty simple operation once i figured out how to remove the retaining pins.

a manual sure would have helped lol.

Uhhh what? I never implied WD should be an owners manual....man some sensitive Sandy's out there. I do my own work but its nice to talk with others and getting insight when tackling a job on a particular bike you have not done the brakes on before..for example watch out for the thingamabob spring or watchamacallit screw it sticks...know what I mean? Thanks for posting though sure it got your post count up

Did the front & rear took 10 mins, 15 tops. Thanks lorider for letting me know which way the rear pin went. front pads still look new almost...rear pads where literally down to metal, i scrap that up from riding the dragon a while back. Anyways thanks for the heads up.

My pad changing tip for the Brembo's , and it helps on the stock Nissan/Victory calipers too, is to never pull the pivot pin completely out at first-use a drift pin or even a small screwdriver and push the pin out and then back off enough to change one pad-push the pin back through enough to catch the new pad and change out the remaining pad. Doing it this way only adds a few seconds to the job and keeps the anti rattle clip in place-if you pull the pin out and drop both pads you'll most likely see/wear it hit the floor and they're a bitch to get back in.
