Default Dealers with discount pricing?

I am up in the Detroit area for a two week robotics class and had this weekend with nothing really to do, so my buddy from work and I head down to Honda East in Toledo (during a pretty heavy snow shower) to see what they had in stock. I saw only one XCT and it was sitting outside waiting for it's new owner to show up. It was my first close up view of one in white. It looked pretty nice with the snow coming down around it (we don't see that stuff so much in SC).
Anyway, they are discounting the red or white XCT to around $19,990 or so. Black is somewhere near that. I know most dealers most likely stick to suggested retail. My question is, are there other dealers doing this and are any of them near South Carolina? I really don't want to drive from SC to Ohio to trade my VTX in, but for over $2k in savings, I will.

It is like you can not find any unless you go to Texas or Arizona. Most of the places I have searched have left over bikes clear back to 2009 and they want brand new price for them. I went to a dealer yesterday which is 60 miles away, drove right past it. No sign out front. Seams their main thing is tractors or 4 wheelers. The next dealer distance from me is around 70 miles. Most of their floor plan is Jap bikes. Cycle trader is a search engine for some of the dealers. But good luck with that. You will see it on sell then when you call they have added the military discount into the price. Trying to be SLICK.

Discounts are as tough to judge as responses but one thing that is and always will be a constant is weather. Since weather affects sales the prices in the areas affected by the weather drop considerably because for dealerships in some areas a discounted sale is better than no sale. If I had to guess I would have to say that you aren't going to find the same discounts in SC that you saw in Ohio because dealers in SC know their winter is almost over.

Don't let that scare you off; just because a dealership doesn't advertise a discount doesn't mean they won't give you one. Keep in mind that at any dealership (auto/motorcycle/pet store/tractor) the potential for discounts is completely dependant on their financial status. If a dealership is hurting because they can't get sales (weather, etc) their price will drop. If a dealership they can afford to give discounts but may opt to go for bust and increase their prices instead.

Bottom line is that this is the land of opportunity and opportunities are available for buyers and sellers. Make the best deal that you can and expect the dealership to do the same. Do your homework and be prepared to walk away for a crappy deal and you won't get screwed. If you decide to jump in with both feet and get a less than optimal deal remember what you did wrong and don't make the same mistakes next time.

Have you seen this Thread?

Honda East is my closest dealer and have been excellent. Kate from their parts department is a member here. They offer outstanding discounts for our membership.

Gibson, I see that you've been very critical of the Victory dealers but please don't lump your experience in with all the dealers. Trust me they are not all as you describe.

I should have put this in my first post.
When I bought my VTX, I got it from Southern Honda in Chattanooga. They are a volume dealer for Honda products only, so I knew there were dealers out there with (large) discounts regardless of the time of the year. I just didn't know if there were any for Victory.

To piggyback on Bob C350's remarks and to help clarify what appears to be either confusion or a disgruntled attitude (not you Lt Dan).

Most Victory dealerships will give discounts and their discounts are no differnet than any other type of dealership. Their discounts are based completely off their willingness to discount and their financial wellbeing. If they are doing well their discounts may not be as good as the would be when business is slow. In reality why pass up a buck when people are lined up outside your doors? Not unlike other dealerships their discounts will also rely on the customers ability to negotiate. Your deal is going to depend on you to some extent!

Also Victory dealerships average selling 33 bikes per dealership per year. Because of the low volume it is not unusual for them to sell other brands or types of recreational vehicles. The non-Victory stock keeps the doors open whic is acceptable to most people. There are very few people that give a crap whether or not their future bike is displayed next to a tractor or atv on the showroom floor because most understand that the dealership could not survive as a standalone Victory dealership.

I suggest you try Performance Powersports of Seneca, SC. I talked to them a couple of times and felt that they loved motorcycling. There are some great roads in that area. Also try Motorcycle.com, you can search for dealers by state and make.

One of the largest Victory dealers is right there in Myrtle Beach, SC called Coastal Victory (Murrells Inlet Address). Tim and Dave are both great guys and they will deal to get you what you want at a reasonable price (I suspect in-line with the prices you saw in Ohio or better). Tell them that Jay with the '11 Ness XC sent you their direction.

Thanks for both suggestions. I will be checking into both of those dealers.

You might want to give Cherokee Trikes & More a call at 1-866-849-1369. They are in Greer, SC, a Victory dealer. I know that they will deal.
