Default High Idle Trouble

Since I got the bike out this year. It has been idling very high for the first few min's of riding 1500 to 2000 rpm. I have had this happen to me 20 some years ago on my Kaw. But couldn't remember what caused it. I had to go back to old school to figure it out. I went and got a can of carb cleaner started the bike and squirted some carb cleaner in different area's until I found that the rubber for the throttle body adapter has separated from the aluminum and is causing a vacuum leak. Has anyone had to replace this on their bike? And if so how long did it take if you did it yourself and what short cuts are there if any. This is my first problem with my pride and joy since I rebuilt her from a wreck. The first owner wrecked her at 70 and hit a guard rail. Thanks, Dain

So it is a salvaged motorcycle and you wander why it does not idle correctly? Ecm needs reflashed, cables could be sticking on the throttle, many different things could be the cause. Rust and water could have gotten into the cable housings causing a small drag on the cable. You did not say what year and make of bike. O2 need to warm up to tell EFI to idle down.

Well since my photo is of a Vision I just guessed you would have known it was a Vision my bad, 2008 Vision. Yes it's a salvage bike and has run perfect up to now. I am not asking whats wrong with it or wondering, because I already know whats wrong! And just because it's a slavage title doesnt mean a whole lot of stuff is wrong with it. I did the total rebuild myself on her including the paint. I think if you would have read the whole post you would have seen. I have a throttle body adapter that the rubber vulcanizing has separated and is sucking air, or in tech terms, a vacuum leak at the throttle body adapter plate. I just wanted to know if anyone has changed this out on their Vision and have any short cuts to changing it. Thanks Dain

I replaced my adapters last year at 24000 miles. It is a common problem on all Vic's as far as I know. The engine heat just kills the rubber. BTW, both my adapters were cracking when I replaced them. They were like $85 to replace both of them. I did the work myself, so I don't know what the dealer would charge for labor.
