Default Side mount plates

I've been hunting for a horizontal side mount plate for my Jackpot. They can be pretty expensive. With the swing arms that are painted they have a recessed oval axle nut. Some places sell the oval axle nut mount to replace the tension washer (probably not the techniqual term), which recesses into the swing arm. Others sell a mount that sits flat on the swing arm and they give you a spacer to fill in the gap that is left. My question is this setup safe? What type of spacer would work best and what size? I would rather go with the recessed mount but we are talking around $250-$300. Just wondering if anyone has had the same issue and which way they have gone. Thanks.
