Default Starter Clutch Going Out?

I have what I think is a starter clutch getting ready to go out on an 04 KP. I hear a high pitch steady sound that's different than the gear mesh whine most of us are use to. It also makes a fairly loud screeching noise after I turn off the motor most of the time.

Does this sound like the starter clutch on its way out?

If so; are there any special tools needed and do I need to drain the oil to pull the primary cover. Should I change primary gasket. I ask because I did the cams on my XC and reused the gaskets even though I had new ones. I'm assuming the primary gasket is different between the two bikes. Yes?

For sure drain the oil and to be on the saft side I would put in a new peimary gasket.

Don't forget to un hook the battery.
