Default 2009 kingpin running way too rich? HELP

Hey Everyone,
I have a 2009 Kingpin 8 Ball the a bought about a month ago. Great bike and I love riding it.
I have a little problem. When I bought it I had the dealer install Ness Shooter slip-on mufflers and the stage 1 upgrade. The guy there told me the stage 1 included the computer re-flash and high flow air filter.
I have been riding it for about a month this way and I noticed that it is running way too rich. I pulled the filter access panel and everything looks stock to me. If they did the stage 1 re-flash but made no changes to the air box would this cause it to run rich?

Is the filter red or white? White means it still has the stock filter and they didn't change it.

What makes you think it's running rich? They do run rich when first started and for a few minutes afterward or until a certain head temp is reached but after that they tend to run lean on a factory/dealer flash.

The filter is white with Orange rubber outside rim. The reason I think it is running rich is the exhaust is getting tons of black soot in it. So much that it is running down to the bottom side of the mufflers. This means unburnt fuel right? Also, I am getting a lot of backfiring, mostly on decel.
It seems strange that they would do a stage 1 re-flash and not open up the intake side.

Default Air box changed?

The airbox should look different too. The stage 1 air boxes have vents on the outsides, stock one's do not.
Is it possible they got the filter right, but didn't swap the air box reducing your airflow?

It sounds like maybe some wires got crossed in the shop and the complete job didn't get done; only the exhaust install - not the flash and air filter with change out of the right side of the air box with the added intake opening.

Well, I talked to the dealer today and they said that they would like to plug in and see what flash got put on the bike. They said that with aftermarket pipes, not victory brand, its hard to know what flash to use. I think that I might do a stage 1 airbox upgrade to see if it gets better.
Can anyone tell me if I need to put the computer back to a stock map before I can install a PCV or PCIII? I had one on my previous bike (Vulcan 900) and I was very happy with the results.

You don't have to go back to the stock flash. If you paid to have the Stage 1 flash done; it should be there though. I don't know what he's talking about when he said he doesn't know what flash to use. I'm under the impression the 106 motor only has one flash. I'm not sure if there are multiple choices for the 100 motor. There are S&S flashes but unless you specifically asked for that and they are a licensed S&S dealer; they couldn't do it. Chances are they are though if they have been around awhile.

You definitely have the stock filter.

Thought you'd bought the "Stage1" from Victory, which includes the pipes, filter, airbox and re-map. Who knows what they charged you for? The new airbox has vents on both sides.
I recently swapped my filter for a K&N, my Victory Stage1 filter was also orange with white filter medium.
Never had an issue with popping, or sooty pipes.

I'm starting to think that I would have been better off with an aftermarket fuel processor. I looked at my invoice and there is no mention of a stage 1 anything. Just $600 for Ness shooter exhaust. They say they did a re-flash which would the richer running. My mpg is crap right now too. I am only getting about 36 mpg.

I think I might put in a K&N filter and open up the airbox to see if that helps. Don't really want to go back to the dealer, not sure I can trust what they tell me anyway.
