Default Transmission whine

Hello,

My '15 8 Ball has about 2300 miles on it and I just noticed a couple things with the transmission: First, it seems to whine when I'm riding - obviously slowly - in first or second gear (it may be happening in higher gears too but I just can't hear it). Second, about a quarter of the time when I downshift from fourth to third or from third to second, I hear a clicking sound between when I make the shift and release the clutch lever.

There doesn't seem to be anything else out of the ordinary except for these noises; it shifts and seems to run fine. I'm almost certainly going to bring it in to the dealer but wanted to put it out there to see if anyone has any ideas as to what might be going on. Also, the oil level is fine.

Default its normal

lots of discussion about our trannys, being all gears they make more sounds, they are very reliable + are said to get quieter with more miles. Vic's OE oil shears quickly which can contribute to some added sound as the miles are put on it. going to a quality 20-50 will quiet things a bit. i don't see where you live so i will say 20-50 is better in the heat, a 10-40 works for cooler temps. lots of discussions on oil for sure, read + make your choice or just try something beside OE 20-40, quite overpriced for a semi synthetic IMO

Thanks for the reply. I live in Colorado between Denver and Colorado Springs (I thought I added that to my profile but obviously not) and do use the Victory semi-synthetic oil that comes in the changing kits. The amount of noise these transmissions make has taken some getting used to but I actually like the solid "clunk" that I get when I shift to first when the light turns green. What concerns me about the noises that I mentioned above is that they seem to have just started recently.

Rode mine without a helmet once and realised just how much mechanical noise a Victory V-Twin makes.
I put my open face helmet back on and now I just hear my loud pipes, and that nice gear drive primary whine.
A mechanical symphony, music to my ears.
Pity the biker of the future in his/her electric bike.

PS once you get to 6000 miles Id go full synthetic if I was you.

Thanks. I think I'll hold off taking it into the dealer for now, especially since it seems to be running fine operationally. I'll also look into going full synthetic.

My experience Victory transmissions are agricultural at best... the worst of any motorcycle on the road and no sign of improvement in future year models so live with it, sell it or buy an Indian. Wine while riding comes primarily from 2 sources, cam drive chains and drive belt. Had 2 BMW K1600 GTL machines, 2012 & 2014 both had terrible "tractor agricultural crash" trannies and very loud cam drive chains... glad to have got rid of both but my 2014 XCT has exactly same problems. The only resolution go back to a push rod engine like Indian and completely redesign tranny... not at all likely. Can't figure out why a push rod engine working in RPM range red lined at 5.5K would not be a much better option... a hell of a lot quieter & smoother. Indian has the right engineering in this regard.

You should be riding not posting...... get back to business

to the OP, Vics make lots of odd noises, it took me a season of riding to get comfortable that is "just how it is".

Just got home , 30 miles . Bike performed flawlessly , very happy Brother here .
