Default $1.00 Magnetic Oil Drain Plug

When I changed the oil for the first time, I was kinda surprised that my Cross Roads didn't have a magnetic drain plug. Once the oil was out, it was too late to do anything about it.

Today, I was in Hobby Lobby and came across these magnets. Not sure if they are rare earth magnets, but they are quite strong.

Three magnets for $4.99 and I had a 40% off coupon, so they are $1.00 each. They are about 10mm in diameter and 3mm thick - 3/8" x 1/8" for you H-D guys ;-p

I stuck one on the outside of the drain plug. It held pretty tight. Unless something hits it just right, I doubt that it will come off easily. When I change my oil next time, I can just slide it to one side to gain access to the hex key slot.

The photo of the magnets and the quarter shows their size. It also shows that these magnets would not get any closer together. If I moved one, the other two moved away.

FYI... don't get your finger between two of the magnets when they jump toward one another - kinda smarts. DAMHIKT!

Nice. Just check often as your magnets will start collecting a lot of metallic debris off the road. I've used an earth magnet on a previous bike, and I was amazed at how often I had something to yank off the magnet - washers, nuts, even a nail.

Please add your bike's year and model to your signature. Here's why.
Riding: 2011 Cross Roads & 2016 Springfield
Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

This is a great idea. Keeps the allen head opening clean too by covering it.
