I tried once had to buy a new one

find a painter and ask him about a base coat it might be for transparent

Rustoleum is a good brand for sure. I'm sure it works as well or better than the Night Shades product that has been around a long time. I'm sure it would be fine on your short shield since you won't be looking through it.

I tried it on my rear brake light and turn signals and had to use some polishing compound to take a lot of it back off. I didn't feel people could see the brake light or signals well enough during the day. At night it was fine.

Default Lens Tint

I did my turn signals. Put light coats. I did 2 light coats and they look pretty good. Got rid of that loud yellow but you can still see signal. Yes, I use hand gestures just in case! But very easy and good if you take your time.
