Default 106 Freedom vs. 107 Milwaukee 8

After watching this vid, I got that feeling in the pit of my stomach "again" for the loss of our Victorys .....
The HD "Stage 2" is their freer flowing intake, exhaust and mapping(Stage 1) with the addition of a drop in cam. Essentially the bike in the vid is an upgrade match to what I have in my XC. My tuner admits he has a "conservative" dyno which showed my stage 2 106 produced 112hp \ 113tq once tuned in with a flatter and longer torque curve vs. HD's stage 2 107 which came out at 98hp \ 107tq
Just reminds me of how good our Vics, that are no more, really are....

Relieved to read this - haven't even watched the video yet but the title worried me that you were thinking about jumping ship.

I think it's safe to say you definitely get more bang for the buck from performance mods with a 106 than you can with a 107. Now with a maximus style tuner you can drop in a cam, an intake and either modify the stock or replace and have a LOT less money that the comparable HD upgrades and end up with more for it.

I was worried that the new "107" might have an edge. Two of my riding members in our group bought an Ultra and the other a RGU. Ran against them both in high gear roll ons. First thing I notice is that my CCT is geared higher so I thought I might be at a disadvantage. 2800 is 75 on my CCT and the other two guys are at 3000 rpms. I immediately pulled them as soon as we hit it. All of us were riding double. At 65 mph it was closer until we got to 75 then I pulled them both. All of us are stock. They still did better than the old 103 which I trounce easily.

I have a buddy that recently bought the new 117 CVO. It is a nice bike and has every bell and whistle. One day I get a text saying the bike is amazing and though it has a speed limiter at 112 he can tell it has allot more. He goes on to tell me stock his bike is putting 92HP to the ground. I was floored. I $50K bike with speed limits and a 117 that's not beating a Vic 106 with a few simple mods. I felt the same way as you PaiN. It made me really proud of my bikes but sad at the same time knowing some nitwits stopped production of something so great.

After I sent him some Dyno results from a few Vics he started taking about all the stage kits available and wondering how far he should go.

For me the top of the line bike should come out screaming. I couldn't afford the bike but I for sure couldn't buy it and then spend thousands trying to give it beef.

Not being mentioned is the HD 107 oil sumping problem now showing itself. My buddy just picked up a new 2017 and having this issue.
I loved the fact that my STOCK CCT outran and handled better then my 14 previous Harlees....

Looks like it went from 79/102 hp/tq to 98/107 hp/tq. Our 106 gets close to that with a stage one. Add in the cams it gets way more. Generally 110/110 hp/tq or more depending on the tune, tuner, and dyno.

Yep, freaking Polaris is an idiot, but I guess we knew that.

I keep hoping they wise up and bring it back as a limited line under the Indian name but I don't think they are smart enough. Just the XC and Vegas would be enough to keep it alive. They sold all their accessories off though and just sell the basic parts and maintenance items; supposedly for the full 10 years from last January. I wouldn't even care if they sold it as an Indian Cross Country and an Indian Vegas as long as they just kept making them. They didn't even answer my letter about re-thinking the idea of shutting Victory down. It probably didn't get past the mail room before it was thrown in the trash.

Grrrr. The decision to shut Victory down will likely be remembered as the absolute dumbest decision made by any motor company in America. Mostly because it wasn't because they couldn't afford to keep it going; they easily could. Just plain old bonehead stupid I guess.

Did you mean your stock 106 Victory or were you talking about something else?

typo. Meant 106 Vic.

just my .02 cents as to why Polaris killed the Vic might have to do with a secondary issue of an aging motor that needed upgrading in both models/engine and EPA issues forthcoming here and worldwide. They went with the hot ticket of what was selling better and what to grow. "Indian" ...

With the bike in hibernation, I went to the range to run my guns this morning on the way back I stopped by an HD dealer to kick a few tires. The new Sport Glide and Heritage are kind of interesting as a light weight tourers but nothing more than a passing interest, so no worries It'll be years before I have to seriously consider "the next" bike purchase.

The "aging" tech of the Freedom 106 introduced in 2008, is pretty much the footprint HD used in its latest & greatest Milwaukee 8 engines...Yet the 106 is still more powerful, efficient and reliable.... The only area where I feel the M8 has anything over the 106 is it cooling technologies.
