Default 1.5 inch lowering links

Dear all knowledgable forum,
I am finally getting pipes, PCV, K&N, and lowering my bike next week. My dealer is suggesting 1.5in. lowering links for my 2012 vegas (I was originally going with 1 in) claiming they have never had any problems, I read about the wiring and stuff but still worry about bottoming out since my wife rides with me at least half the time. I weigh 160 and she goes 115 soak n wet Is the 1.5 too much or should I stick with 1 in links for a 2012.

I bought some 1.5" links from another forum member here. My wiring harness did not have to be moved since it was located on the side of the rear fender from the factory BUT I did rub. I could hear the tire rub metal and the belt rubbed on the front pulley cover. I did not want to do any grinding or anything so I just took them off. Some folks have issues and some don't. In fact, I still have them laying in my garage. I was going to list them for sale on here at some point if you're interested.

Thanks rebel, thats the kind of info I am looking for. Did you have rubbing issues riding solo, two up, or both? BTW those x-bow pipes look good on your kp.

If anyone else has info to share about 1.5in or 1in lowering links for a 2012 vegas, I would appreciate it.

Thanks, mostly 2 up, though I did hear it rub sometimes solo when I hit a larger bump. With 2 up it was often. That being said, I did not adjust my suspension at all. Some tighten their suspension up when they lower and some put in a different rear shock completely. I didn't mess with anything. I removed the old links and installed the new and rode it just like that. It's very likely that you will have to make changes if you go with lowering links. The best way to do it would be to buy the lowering kit which I believe is only an inch. It comes with a different shock that has a different stop than your current shock. (less travel) And that should resolve any rubbing issues in the rear, you'd still likely have to grind the front pulley cover because it will rub the belt.

Thanks gibson, that is solid info, I think I need to stick with a 1 in lowering kit after reading that. If only the dealers would surf these forums and educate themselves they would make better recommendations and save a little face along with building a good rep among victory owners.

Rebel,
Thanks for the info, I think I'll have to pass on the links you have, if I rode solo I would buy them from ya but I do appreciate the offer. I think I will step back and do more research on this subject before I do anything.

Wise choice. My advice to anybody wanting to lower would be to buy the complete kit so it's done right.

Personally, I'm so short I can hardly touch ground with my Pin. I just deal with it. I've decided not to mess with lowering it with or without the kit. I've got used to it now so it's not much of an issue. I'm just careful of where I stop, making sure I'm not over a pot hole or anything or we'll be going down.

There is the option of a custom seat. You can redo the seat to lower it plus get rid of some of the padding on the side. The wideness of the seat keeps you from your stance also. Most upholstery shops can custom fit your butt. That is what I would do first before messing up the geometry of the bike.

I am going to look into modifying my seat first, thanks Gibson.....good stuff.

I am trying to be a little different with my bike, 2 bikes in one, a solo cruiser when i'm ridin with the boys for the afternoon and in 1hr having a 2up machine with a little storage when the wife and I take a day trip with friends. Being short limits ones options which is why I purchased a vegas, wanted a bagger but just too much bike for me. when I'm done I'll post some pics of what I've done.
