Starting issues (when hot) - 2012 CCT
2012 CCT w/ 90k miles.
When the bike is hot, occasionally I'll push the starter button and nothing (at all) will happen. Just the dull click of the starter button itself as if the engine kill switch is engaged. More recently, I've noticed that when nothing happens the neutral light on the dash will dim ever so slightly. I checked the battery and had the dealer confirm that the battery is good (load test included).
Side Note: The battery is only 6 months old. I had a similar issue last fall and the dealer found a bad battery. I nuked the 5 year old battery out in death valley. Had it replaced and haven't had a problem again until the weather warmed back up this spring. To be fair, the weather did cool off quite a lot after I had the battery replaced. Now that the weather is consistently 80+ the problem is more consistent as well. On cold days (highs in the 50s) I've had no such issues.
I did my best to do some maintenance within the Starter Button itself, including a cleaning and dielectric grease. This did not seem to help with the issue.
Oddly, after the bike cools down for 30-45 minutes, it will generally start. I've had a few sessions where I tried to start it every 5 minutes until it self-resolved.
The engine kill switch seems to be working fine.
I always pull the clutch and there are no loose cables there (although I've never had to pull the clutch
Nuetral Sensor Switch: The last couple times this problem arose I did manage to get the bike to start (even when very hot) by fiddling with the gear shifter lever. I would hold down the starter button and thing fiddle with the shifter. Both times as I pressed down slightly (like trying to put it in first gear), the bike would suddenly fire up and run fine.
Is this an indication of the neutral switch going bad? Could it be that the heat inside the case is making the neutral switch lose connection? Can I bypass the switch, and is it ok to leave it bypassed? Would that defeat the neutral light on the dash as well?
It seems odd that the nuetral light on the dash is coming on fine (and on even when having an issue), but the computer thinks it's off?
