Default Dealership screw up? $

I purchased a 2011 Vegas 8Ball (106ci) back in June of this year and had that same dealership put the Victory swept exhaust on the bike and re-map late June-early July.

Well, now a month later and a few hundred miles the bike started to run rough and dying out from time to time. The plugs were fouled out. I took it over to the dealership (since its under warranty) and they said they had to install a "revision of the map that Victory released recently". They submitted the warranty claim to Victory and Victory replied... what bike do you have? what map was on it? what exhaust was installed and what new map was installed with it?

My thoughts are, if Victory released a revision to a certain map, wouldnt they just go ahead and approve the warranty claim? Do you know if their would have been more than 1 map to use for a 2011 Vegas 8ball (106ci) that just had the Victory swept exhaust with factory intake intalled? I am doing my homework so i dont get screwed by this lovely dealer. In my eyes, either Victory really did release a revision or the dealership is blowing smoke up my rear and making me pay for their mistake. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

If Victory denies the claim, start looking for a good lawyer.

Please add your bike's year and model to your signature. Here's why.

How would they make you pay for it? It's under warranty and they installed everything on it, right? It seems to me that the dealer would be responsible to make sure they installed the correct map in the first place. I bet they straighten it out fairly quick.

Do you know if there would have been more than 1 "correct map" that they could have selected? I dont know what happens when it comes to the selection of maps with the dealership-manufacture. I imagine their would be one choice for the 2011 Victory Vegas 8ball w/106ci when adding the Victory swept and intake...I really dont care to get charged the diagnosis fee + remapping again

This is too easy........Have your dealer plug the bike into the digital wrench program and pull up a service report. It will list what map and version are currently in your ECM. the BS will pretty much stop there

BTW if the bike ran fine for a month....The real problem is NOT the map

I'm not an asshole...I just type that way

When you took your bike in did the work order have any price on it when you authorized the work? If the work order said $0 when you signed it, it means there is no charge. If it's going to cost you any money they have to call you and get an authorization from you otherwise work can not be performed if they did perform it you have every right to fight against unauthorized work.

Thanks for the replies!

Kevin- Finding out which map is/was installed on the bike is not the issue. The issue is that the dealership is going to charge me for the re-map if Polaris/Victory denies my warranty claim. I am trying to figure out if there is multiple maps for my setup or the dealership screwed up and used the wrong one. The dealership said Polaris released a recent map revision for the swept exhuast due to many issues they were having, I have no idea if thats true. Supposibly the map that was installed when they installed the exhaust was running too rich and fouled the plugs. Either way I would think Polaris or the dealership should pick up the tab. PS-I dont trust the dealership...

Im trying to figure out if Polaris actually released a map revision for the swept exhaust (stage 1) on my bike or if it has been the same one all along.

Most current version is listed as PN 4013162, and that is from the latest update from 7/29/11. Now go pull a service report like I said and compare. IF and that is a big IF it has been revised. Vic will have no problem offering you a new flash code

So the dealer ended up installing the map for the shotgun exhaust they said...didn't charge me anything. Kinda pissed that they don't have their stuff together. Family powersports in Texas...the only positive thing I can say is they figured out they made a mistake and fixed it

I'd say that is a pretty big thing. Most people these days hate to admit to making a mistake.
Glad you got it taken care of.
