Default 2001 V92 puking oil

Hey all...

I come to you tonight, hat in hand, seeking guidance. I rode to Fayeteville AR over the weekend, (had a blast!) and on the way back I ran into a problem. After stopping for breakfast and getting back onto the green machine and putting the kick stand up, she puked oil out the air intake. My beloved bike has 46xxx miles on her.

I was able to clean the air box and filter enough to ride the last hour (with another stop in the middle to mop out the oil) to a friends house, where she promptly went on a trailer and came home.

I have two thoughts as to the cause, and Id like to know what you guys think.

#1- The drain holes under the valve covers are plugged, causing oil to back up, and spew out the crank case vent.

#2- The dipstick reading 1/4" over full is the culprit, and the engine is essentially ridding itself of the excess oil.

Every five hundred miles, Ill blow a quart of oil out the tail pipe, so I know she needs a ring job. On saturday evening I stopped at Orielys with a friend, and he checked and topped off the oil in both bikes while I was in the restroom. I assumed he poured the correct amount into mine, and didnt double check so as to avoid insulting him. She ran GREAT saturday night and sunday morning, until the breakfast stop, which is when we also discovered the dipstick reading 1/4" over full. After cleaning out the air filter with a can of carb cleaner, she ran even better- from cruising @ 3500 rpm down to 3000-3100.

Im going to start simple and work my way up. Dump the oil, clean the filter, and start from scratch with the correct amount of Victory oil.

Any words of wisdom or encouragement are greatly appreciated. And please, dont sugar coat anything, Im a big boy and I like straight answers!

Are you (or your Buddy) checking the oil on the sidestand? The oil needs to be checked with the bike straight up. You can get another 2 qts or so overfull by checking on the sidestand.

Default checking oil

fff: vicbuilder has a very good point. just in case you aren't familiar with it, look at the forum jump and highlight "oil and lube" then look for thread on checking oil. several different versions on essentially the same way to check your oil.
