60k on that belt? Age might be your problem. The most common cause for a broken belt is getting a stone embedded into the belt, especially if the stone is at the belt's edge.

10 year old belt with 60k miles on it. Sounds like she was ready for retirement.

Please add your bike's year and model to your signature. Here's why.

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Most drive belts, especially those under high stress and exposed to the weather, have a recommended change frequency of 5 years.

I could not find the recommendation for the Victory, but I changed my 2004's belt soon after buying the bike, even though it only had 2700 miles on it.

I'm pretty sure it was just age. No evidence of rock or other debris damage. Belt broke under rather hard acceleration

Was not bad. Just felt like I missed a gear. Not a cheap part I've found out.

My service manual says to replace the drivebelt at 30,000 miles.
