Default Question on Throttle Cables

Started the process of switching out my grips this morning and could not get one of the lock nuts loosened up on the cables so sprayed it down to loosen it up and decided to tighten everything back up since I intend to go out on the bike tonight.

Putting it all back together I noticed that there seems to be some play in the cables where they go up into the housing. Everything is put back together correctly and tightened down but to be honest I never noticed exactly how much play there was there before I took it apart. I checked on my wife's Vulcan and hers are locked down tight... mine are by no means loose but they certainly are not tight either... so exactly how much play is OK there?

The nuts that hold the adjusters in place once you have snugged them up.
