Default Test road a 2012 XC - clutch was tough!

Hi guys...I'm new to the forum and to Victory. I used the Search feature with no luck so I created a new post....

I test road several Victory bikes this weekend during a demo event at my local dealer here in Phoenix, AZ. It was a great opportunity to ride most of the Victory line-up. The XC has been on my radar as a possible next bike so I rode two XC's during the demo event. One thing I noticed was the extremely tight clutch which required a lot of pull to engage and some real finesse to disengage it. As a former HD owner, this was quite new for me.

My dealer suggested that they have a "fix" for the stiff factory clutches. They showed me a Ness model that they added a "device" that really helped. It's a block of metal that the clutch cable travels through down behind the footboards. Sorry if my description isn't quite accurate but whatever this device is, it surely helped.

Has anyone added this to their bike? I got the impression that my dealer had the piece made custom for some of their bikes on the floor.

Other than some wind buffeting and being somewhat disappointed with the power of the bike (the numbers on paper don't seem to convert to real world differences between the Victory and HD), I did enjoy the bike.

PS.....Out of all the bikes ridden this weekend, the High Ball was the clear winner! Loved that bike!!!

Arrow Clutch

What you are describing is the "Easy Clutch" & it is commercially made. My XC was somewhat hard pull when new but I guess I got used to it or it broke in. I was at the same demo ride, got there late & extremely pissed I did not get on the bobber. Seems it was the most popular ride. By the way, the guys at Az Vic are awesome to deal with. What do you ride now?

The XC demo bike that I test rode had an extremely difficult clutch pull on it also but my new XCT had a fairly nice pull on it..

Probably needs a good lube. My old Harely had an easy pull and this is harder than it, but only slightly harder than before I changed it.

Be careful on the AZ easy pull. I called them twice (because I was in disbelief the first answer I got) and both time was told, "...we'd love to sell it to you but fair warning, we are seeing issues of early cable breakage." He even told me he won't put one on his bike. In other words carry an emergency spare if you do, or replace the cable often as preventative.

Now I know some have and zero issues, but this came directly from the maker.

I'd agree that it sounds more like a maintenance issue that anything indicative of these bikes. The Clutch on my XC is fairly easy to pull. So easy in fact that a fellow Hammer rider asked me if mine was hydrolic when he got on my bike and clutched it.

I have had the easy clutch add on since my bike was new. The clutch is very easy and smooth with the added easy clutch. I see absolutely no reason why it would cause additional cable wear issues. I got mine from victory only and it was around $70. Keep the barrels lubed on both ends of the cable to increase cable life.

Keep in mind that theses demo bikes are probably not very well maintained.
As the bike breaks in it will get as easy as what you have now.
Victory does put a stronger spring in the bike cause of the torque the Vic's have.

I also had an ez-pull on my 07 Kingpin. Put it on after the cable broke about 40 miles from home. Works well. Hoped that less lever pull translated to less stress on the cable. Like others have said, lube the barrels often and you should be good.

Thanks for the info, guys! One of the sales guys at the dealer spoke very highly of the EZ clutch. Good info for a potential future purchase.

I sold my HD Fatboy and now test riding Victory's and HD's. Taking a Road Glide up to Payson in a few weeks. Did a 1,000 mile ride on a Street Glide earlier this year. So I should have a pretty good idea which one is best for me.

All of the touring bikes - both HD and Victory - seem to have buffeting complaints so I'm not to worried about that issue. I did notice some quality differences between the two brands, however. Not bashing one or the other, just trying to make an objective determination as to which will be best for me.

I am smitten with the High Ball, despite it's lack of practicality. But if I were daring, I'd buy one, put some bags, windshield and floorboards on it and call it a touring bike...
