Default did i get screwed

Hi i just bought a 06 vegas with 2500 miles on it when i started to drive it i noticed that it had a big hesitation like like a bucking bronco i did some research and read about the tps maybe needing adjustment so i called the local dealership and explained what the bike was doing . They told me a tps adjustment should fix the problem and it would take them about an hour and a half so i trailered the bike to the dealership and unloaded the mechanic came out started the bike and said i think all you need is plugs (maybe that should of been my first clue to leave then ) he changed the plugs but it didn't help so he took it in the shop so i waited . 3 or 4 times he took it for a ride each tme coming back with no different result so 5 hours later they are closing for the day so bike has to stay until the next day. the next day i get a call from them they need the key for the gas tank they ran the bike out of fuel . they think its the tps they say but they can't adjust it without fuel . so next thing after about 2 hours i get a call and they tell me they found the problem fuel pump is shot . $700 for a new pump my question is did they screw up the pump running it dry of fuel ? and i still have no idea if that was actually the problem .

In all honesty - you got screwed! What do you mean by "TPS"? Are you talking about remapping your fuel system? This is the area I would look at 1st!
1) Is this a Victory dealer and if so, did they hook it up to the Digital Wrench program and check the air/fuel settings?
2) Does your bike have aftermarket pipes? If so, I would bet it needs remapped along with checking all the fuel/air hoses for cracks & leaks. 3) This bike has been a garage queen most of its life & if it had ethanol fuel left in it for an extended period of time, you may have some problems. I would be curious to know how the fuel pump failed...was it corrosion or something else?

You need to see all the parts that came off your bike and/or demand they repair it free or get your money back. Are you prepared to walk away from this bike & get your money back? This is just my opinion, but I think this dealer hasn't a clue how to fix your bike!

I had a similar situation and was told I "fowled my plugs by leaving the choke on". Duh!!! There is no choke! I may be slow, but I'm not an idiot to believe that pile of crap. Good luck!

TPS = throttle position sensor

can you say who the dealer is i live in maritimes also .that way i can stay away. also good luck with your bike.

Fuel pump died from not being ran. There are two rubber o-rings, and a 1/2" piece of rubber hose that I'll bet have turned to goo from ethanol. Dealer may not be the sharpest tool in the box for taking so long to figure it out, but I'll bet the diag is accurate, and they did not cause it

I don't mean to be mean, but if the bike is not under warranty, going to a dealer to have it serviced is a mistake. Find yourself a good, LOCAL motorcycle mechanic and make friends. I trust my local guys WAY MORE than and dealer technician.

thanks everyone for all the posts george i'll post that info after i get the bike back and see what the damage is .

kevin thanks for the post yes with only 2500 hundred i know the bike has sat for extended periods and your post makes me feel a little better i have read that if the bike sits for long times it can screw up the fuel pump the dealer told me that the pump is not rebuildable but i have read on here that it is . i am going to ask for the old pump and if i can get it rebuilt i will , just to have a spare . also i read on hear about turning the key to on and wait until the pump stops running do this a couple times then start it and shut it off before storing for extended periods what exactly does this do ? does it empty the pump ? i've had many bikes but it has been a few years since my last one and this is my first venture into fuel injected bikes so i appreciate this forum and all the input

nycskool i know that it is better to have a buddy do it unfortunately i was told it was a simple adjustment by the dealer so i took it there i will definately be looking around though and i will also be picking up a manual .

Rylan Vos who owns "The Vic Shop" rebuilds the pumps.You definitely can have it rebuilt.
BTW,Kevinx is a Victory mechanic .A very good Vic mechanic, so any advice from him is typically spot on every time.
I'm not sure about the turning the pump off and on thing.I just cycle it once before starting, and none when I park it or store it.
As far as having a buddy work on it, anyone with some mechanical no how can do most maintainance,small repairs, and even hang new accessories. But some things can only be done by a Victory Dealer who has a digital wrench.Victory does not grant access to that little jewel without a Dealer license from what I understand.

Default storing

thanks tarzan i see your from arizona so i'm guessing you don't store it for long unfortunately i live in the north so the bike will be stored for approx 6 months so i don't have to do anything special ?what about fuel stabilizer and putting a little oil in the pistons is either of these recommended? thanks again this forum is awesome

I live in washington so it usually sits for alteast 2 months at a time in the winter. I don't do anything but shut it off. No battery tender, no fuel stabalizer, nothing. Mine is an 07 I bought new in 09.
