Default Does a Power Commander make THAT much of a difference

Ok , just needing to know this. I installed a S&S air cleaner on my bike. My local dealer or any dealer within 200 miles doesn't know how to remap for this upgrade using S&S's upgrade software when combined with Victory's performance software. I have no idea why!

When I ride and then stop , Im getting a little excess gas smell, like not all of the fuel is being burned up? or something like this. There is no leak found to cause this.

Since I cant get it remapped to accomodate the new air intake, Im thinking of buying the Power Commander 3 and using that.

Will running without a remap screw with my motor?
Will the PC actually correct this to where its very noticable?

To do it properly requires a dyno and exhaust measuring equipment.
Often times, PCIII maps are made available from nice people that have done various mods and went to the trouble and expense of having a map created for it. If your mods are similar, you can use such a map in your own PCIII.

Probably gas coming out of an overflow tube.

A PCIII is not an auto tuner. You will need to have a map created or find someone with an existing map if you want it to do anything.

Engines today are set to operate very lean (low fuel to air ratio) to pass emissions and fuel mileage standards. By changing to a higher flow air filter, you have likely decreased the fuel to air ratio making it even leaner.

Engines running lean run hotter and will thereby decrease its life somewhat as over time heat kills mechanical gizmos. A side effect from running too lean is popping in the exhaust. Because there is too little fuel, there may be un-burned fuel spit out on the exhaust cycle that ignites in the exhaust and makes for night time light and sound shows.

On the flip side, you're fuel mileage will probably improve a tad.

FWIW, Cobra is now making an auto tuner for many bikes that *only* takes into account the amount of fuel needed to maximize output power. Some worry this may come at the expense of making the engine run lean at certain operating conditions. In any event, I haven't seen one made for a Victory yet.

Is your dealer not an S&S authorized dealer? When I installed my S&S, I took it to a Vic dealer and they contacted S&S.Your intake should have come with a calibration card, and your dealer should be able to contact S&S and get the download for it. Then they just download it and you should be golden. S&S has very good maps, especially for your application. I had the same configuration as you basically. The only difference is that I had RPW Slash at the time, and you have the upswept. I don't know if the map would be the same, but I would bet it probably work.S&S should have a pretty good idea.
You might want to talk to the service guy at Vic and see if he could be persuaded to call S&S.
BTW, my bike ran great with the S&S download.I wish I had it that easy now. With the mods I have now, I have to run the PCIII so I can add fuel.

Hey Tarzan...I have the calibration card from S&S. I took it to the only dealer here in San Antonio that actually sells victory motorcycles. There really a jap dealer with yamaha, suzuki and kawasaki but added a few victory's in the back corner of the showroom. They do work on vic's, but the service rep acted like he didn't have a clue how to do it. I had even called S&S who confirmed that "Yamaha of Selma" (where I took the bike) were actually listed as a recognized installer and tuner for S&S products. The rep from S&S gave me all the details to tell the dealer what to do. I got the run around from the dealer who said he didnt know the password to access the S&S site. I couldn't get them to call S&S. I dont think they have ever remapped a vic bike yet.

I'll try them again since its been about 8 months since I was there. They still sell the bikes even though they took the Victory banner down from the outside of the building.

Ive got a place close by that will dyno my bike. They do Harleys but probably get a kick out of testing a Victory. I think its 3 runs for 75.00 on the dyno.

Alot of dealers dont know how to use the S&S software thats why they dont want to do it my dealer thought you loaded it with the victory softaware i said i take it you have not done this before.I had to tell him that S&S has there own softwate to load their map.Thats why if the VIC dealers if they have not done it before have no clue and dont want to do it.Bottom line is the S&S download will work great but if you plan to do cams or heads you will need a fuel tuner.Alot of tunes only add fuel put Power commander has the ability to add or take away fuel if its needed.IF you just doing the S&S air cleaner their map will fine go with that if you can find a vic dealer to do it

I got the same answer from Fuel Moto when I asked them as well. Well I consider that they lied to me because in my experience that was not the case. I consider the map that I got from the factory to be junk. The bike ran great at WOT but like not very well everywhere else. My experience with power commanders is that they require a dyno tune. After I got the dyno tune it is a 100% improvement and I love the results. The bike runs way better and stronger now.
