Default tps recalibration .. disconnect speedo?

I recently replaced my tps and had called a dealer to get a price on doing the recal. for the tps. They told me all I needed to do was disconnect the speedometer and reconnect a half hour later. I did this then reset my fuel controller and the bike does run much smoother The procedure in the Victory service manual details a long process and the need for computer program to do the recal. I am wondering if merely disconnecting the speedometer is going to do the recal properly Is anyone familiar with this?
