Default Possible next ride and some misc. questions...

So, I've just completed reading through this entire V92 forum and have assembled a short list of questions that I'm hoping someone will have time to answer. And below that is a pic of the bike I'm going to look at tomorrow, which coincides nicely with getting all this reading done. Suspect if it checks out, I'll be bringing it home.

- What is the availability of stage 1 kits for the '03 - '05 TC's? I get the impression this was originally a Victory-made kit, but they are not making them anymore, correct?

- Someone in another thread mentioned that controllability of the bike with a passenger on board is better with the longer wheelbase Kingpin. Has anyone noticed controllability issues while 2-up on their V92?

- What years suffered from the odometer resetting when the battery was changed? I'm hoping this was fixed prior to '03.

Hmm, thought I had more than that. Got plenty of notes taken and will probably have more questions once the bike arrives.

Edited to add: this is an '03, it has 28k miles and he's asking $4900. Never been down and only has some minor scrapes on the right saddlebag. Seems like a pretty good deal based on what I've seen on ebay, C.L., and cycletrader so far.

When I thought I was going to need a Stage one flash, I think it was going to be 150 from the dealer parts/labor. I don't think I have seen a Stage 1 / Level 1 kit for sale on ebay since I bought my TC. Take a flash light and look up the exhaust. If you can see the length of the pipe you have a level 1 exhaust, if there is a flange about 6" in its stock. that is what I was told.

Not familiar with any controlability with 2up once you adjust your mono shock as per your owners manual. Yes, it is a pain going back and forth so up to you how stiff you leave it ifyour riding 2up the majority of the time. My wife weights 115 so I have my bike set a little more on the high end for solo and just watch my lean with 2up.

To my best knowledge that was a prior year issue and does not affect our TC's. Look for green arrows when applying turn signal.

That is one sweet ride, wish that was in my neck of the woods. I would ponce on that.

I ended up getting this today. It's not perfect, but it checked out mechanically and the stuff that needs fixing is all minor. Rear right turn signal doesn't work so that's probably just a bulb replacement. It has a Mustang seat, but it's not the right one for the bike and is just sitting loose on top of the bike. Easily fixed by adding the missing bolt at the rear of it through the hole in the top of the fender, but I may try to figure out what bike it's for and just sell it after getting the right Mustang for it. The chrome pieces that run along the rear fender inside the saddle bags - the left one is unattached, but easily fixed by adding the missing bolts. Brake pads need replacing both front and back. Other than that, it just needs a wash and wax job and a good application of chrome polish. My buddy did the test ride as I'd only been on a cruiser twice before in my life and didn't want to chance it in the rain on busy Seattle streets. He said it ran and felt great. Shifting was nice and smooth and not overly loud.

Speaking of loud, it is. Nice and throaty and rumbly. I looked up the pipes with a flashlight per Tim's suggestion and didn't see any flange or obstruction all the way to the end, so I guess that means it's got the Level 1 kit on it. Icing on the cake.

So, going to schedule a servicing appointment at the local Vic dealer shortly along with fixing the minor stuff and then I hope to be on the road with it. Can't wait!

Congrats Todd and welcome to the TC world! Were here for ya if you got questions, enjoy the ride!!! It looks sweet but of course post pics after you get her cleaned up!

If your taking it in for service they should be albe to tell you if it has the stage one flash installed on the ECU. As I understood from some other TC owners it could come as a kit which I was glad to find my did have. Only 37.50 for a 30 minute service check and I saved the remainder of the 150 I was going to spend.

Thanks, Tim. I will definitely ask about the exhaust and have them check the ECU. I'm also going to check into the K&N air box and filter I see you guys recommending.

In the interim, on the left side of the air box, if you remove the cover (2 phillips screws) there is a piece of plastic mesh (course debris filter) that can be easily removed from the inside which will improve your stock box performance providing a little more O2 to that Vtwin. Check that you have a stock K&N replacement filter installed there while your at it. Very nice improvement for a little time.

On down the road, Gutting the stock box out is a little scarey as it is best cut out with a dremmel tool and does take a while but its worth it. Post when you get read and I am sure some folks will chime in or if I am around I can tell you what I did wrong.. lol...

Again, congrats! WA is a great place to own a TC I think! hehe

Actually, the air box is something I completely forgot to look at today. For all I know, it could already have the upgraded box. I will check it out on the weekend when I get some time to spend on the bike and let you know what I find.

Thats the stock box. You can see it from the right side photo of the bike. It may have a K&N stock replacement filter in there which is better and if you remove the mesh screen it will improve it. I will have my tank off sometime in the next couple days and take a photo and show you what it looks like without the stock box.

I never thought it would make that much differnce pulling out that screen but I was wrong.. lol..
