Default New Drive belt for engine swap?

Okay, so I swapped a 05 vegas motor into my 99 V92, while I was doing this I also went to the overdrive pulley. When I researched this the info I came across said I needed to swap the rear pulley to the same year and then needed the pulley to match.
I ordered the pulley for an 05 vegas but it's too long, anybody out there that also did or have a swapped motor can tell me the part number or any other info I'ld really appreciate it.

I'm confused.....you have a new motor and you're going to put an OD pulley on it. Good so far.

2nd sentence....you need to "swap the rear pulley and then need the pulley to match." What does that mean?

2nd paragraph.... The rear pulley is to "long." Huh?

Who is doing the engine swap?

I'm trying to help.

I figure he meant that the belt was too long.

So the 1999 and 1999.5 models used this one-year-only "square" tooth drive belt (and corresponding pulleys). Then in 2000 and every year afterward Victory uses a "round" tooth belt.

When swapping a Freedom motor into a 1999 it is suggested that the belt and pulleys match, i.e. swap over to a round tooth belt and rear pulley to match the Freedom's drive pulley (not everyone abides by this suggestion though).
The parts can be found by going to EBay and getting a belt and rear pulley from any Cruiser model 2000-2005 (except the 02-06 TC belt which was longer). All the rear pulleys were the same though for those years. A Vegas line pulley will work but the center will need to be machined out to fit the Cruiser wheel. Vegas line belts will not work (too long).

So then a popular addition is the overdrive pulley for the Freedom engine. The stock belt (either square or round tooth) will work with an OD front pulley.

So, as to OP's problem. Sound like maybe 1) using the wrong belt and/or 2) trying to put a Vegas line pulley on the rear without machining it, or 3) a combination thereof. OP needs to get a 3211085 belt and a pulley from any CRUISER model 2000-2006.

You DO NOT need a Buell belt to use the OD pulley.

Rylan summed it up perfectly for the OP Skab.

Good luck with the swap!

Thumbs up

Yep, the pulley listed for an 05 vegas is 3211088 which is way to long for this frame. The replacement motor is an 05 freedom out of a vegas, the rear pulley is from the same bike? I did not need to do any machining on the pulley and just ordered the pulley for an 05 vegas no knowing about the different frame lengths. I tried my old belt after adjusting the rear wheel and found the length was correct so I spent some more hours researching and found the correct belt and ordered it.
Many thanks to all for their interest and especially to Ryan at the Vic shop and Vicbuilder if your not the same for the advice.
If your planning on doing this swap I would highly recommend that you let Ryan or another professional do this since as the years have added the details and getting the proper parts have been become more difficult. The parts are harder to remove due to corrosion and just plain time and some of the tools required although not special are longer or shorter than the norm.
Last of the parts should be in this week and the temps here are supposed to be in the upper 50's to the 60's so hopefully it all works.
