Default Gvwr

The GVWR on my 2002 TC Deluxe is 1210. Is there a way to boost this? With the wifey, me and a little luggage we're over that by about 30 LBs. Wifey said we could solve this if I lost 30 LBs. Theres got to be a easier way.

Well I don't know if/how you could increase this but the chart already includes 15 pounds cargo and your rack is only rated to 10. I can tell you I'm 250 and 2 up we exceed the GVWR by about 20 with what I carry in the bags but I do just that. Carry a little more than 10 in each bag keeping the weight low and the light stuff on the rack.

I would think your concern would be more towards adjusting the pre-load on your shock prior to the ride for 2up loaded as your going to take it out and see how she rides and what your sag is. Calls for 3/4 -1 1/4" (see owners manual and need a friend to help) but I will tell you I run it a bit softer than that with no issues. I did bottom it out 1 time on a huge bump in the road I could not avoid and it was a solid thump but no issues other than that. As for handling, I had no issues in the twisties with a properly briefed passenger.

I have a 2002 Yamaha Vstar 1100 that I have converted into what looks like a street glide. No part on it are Harley but they look like they are. I the weight limit on it is very small. I know for a fact I have had it well over 100lbs past it and never had a handling issue. Now I have added a progressive rear spring and shock. I think you will be fine. Oh I need to lose around 30lbs too.

I forgot to say that I have the shock adjusted just about all the way out. I've never bottomed the bike out and have hit potholes,railroad tracks and debris in the road. All while two up. Never had a problem with handling, just worried about strain on the engine and trans. So I guess the real question is, Does overloading the GVWR over burden the engine and trans?

In my experience, engineers always add in a conservative "fudge factor" for CYA. If I'm not haveing a control problem, expecially in braking then I press on

Exactly... I just put an overdrive pulley on mine and was wondering how 2up was going to be on the highway through hills, etc... Cakewalk! This engine is flat unbelievable! I don't think you will have any issues at all now that I understand your question as I have seen several of the 02 and up TC's with trailers on the long haul with 2up as well. Just remember that she likes her 2500-3000 rpm range! Safe ridin bro!!!
