Default 2000 V92C Power surges...Transmission going?

hi guys

I dont have much time to take my bike out....probably less than 300 miles annually.

The transmission always had "clunked" when shifting gears. Now when I am cruising (but not accelerating) my bike sort of surges, like it may be slipping? The engine's rpms do not change but i definitely feel the power surge, which goes away when I add to the throttle.

Thoughts??

TIA.

May not help but my thoughts are.
It's very hard to put feelings on bike behavior down on paper(?)
To get the feeling across of what's happening inside it.

Sounds like a lean surge to me with the age of the bike my money is on a cracked intake boot.
