Default Son dropped the bike

Hey guys. Two weeks ago my son was riding my 2001 V92 heading to get something to eat. As he pulled alongside a car he and the car driver looked at each other and the car driver threw a can at him. Unfortunately, my son locked up the front wheel as he was dodging the can and dropped the bike. He got lots of road rash on his leg and arms. The bike was relatively undamaged. The right peg on the crash bar was broken and the lower pipe got scrapped. That was it. I was able to ride the bike back home and it rode fine. Just be careful when riding. You never know what will happen..

Glad your boy is OK. Smack him upside the head for dodging a can, remind him to get the license number next time and pray he recognizes the moron if you ever see them.

I used to be into road cycling and a moron in a pickup was moving at me and threw a full can of beer at me. Missed but I heard it hit a tree. Had it hit me it would have been a really bad injury or worse. I road up and down that road for a couple of weeks trying to catch him. Never did. Glad your son is okay

One of my prime rules is NO EYE CONTACT with cage drivers. I apply that rule when riding or driving. Reason; When there is eye contact, there is a communication link up that too often proves hostile, as the OP's son discovered. Unless you are a new driver/rider there is absolutely no need for eye contact as you have enough experience to determine what the other drivers are going to do.

I have to disagree with that theory. Good luck to you my friend. I keep a close eye on oncoming cars,especially cars turning left from oncoming traffic.Not to mention cars I am passing.I always give a quick glance to make sure people see me. It's one thing to make eye contact.It's another to give someone "the eye".

Nothing said about "giving the eye." I am well into my second million miles and have never had an insurance company have to pay a claim other than windshield replacements. I make my living on the road and my recreation is on the road, just to establish my creds. Having said that, I'll give you one example, of many, of what has happened to me as a result of eye contact.
Before I stopped the practice, I was in the middle of three freeway lanes, coming up on a car in the left lane, I spy a gorgeous head of blonde hair in the driver's seat. As I pull alongside, I glance to see the face and she's smiling at me. In an instant, she yanks the wheel and comes over into my lane! Fortunately, I set mirrors to allow me to see down adjacent lanes (and so should you) and a quick glance showed I had a clear shot to move to that lane and avoid the impact that Blondie was hoping for. Life on the road has been far less eventful since I gave up thinking that eye contact was beneficial.
Those who I have convinced to at least try avoiding eye contact report that driving/riding became a calmer experience and they continue to stick with it and not one has gone back. Et tu Tarzan?

Did you find the can for prints? I have practiced memorizing plate #'s. Not easy, especially at the moment of duress/panick. Had full bottle of Mt. Dew thrown at me while inline skating. They misjudged trajectory based on vehicle speed and missed.

On another note, I trailed the oil to a pick-up in a lot down the road from where I put my bike down on the wide swath he left on a corner. I thought it was water. Big mistake. Never heard from police and did not get compensated for minor damage.

KingpinRider...for occasions like that (and sweet revenge) carry one of those tire valve caps that can remove valve stems. Attach a handle for speeding up the job.
