Default Gas Cap Comes Loose Under Hard Acceleration?

Hi - Bike is now running great after the new fuel pump and filter and gas tank rust cleaning...

So, I'm now finding out that the Victory Gas Cap keeps rotating loose after hard acceleration? I turn it until it clicks and then maybe 1/2 a turn or whatever it takes to get the Victory script to line up and then I started smelling gas after a few hard full gear run ups...

Turns out the cap has come loose and rotated because of the vibrations and needed to be retighted? Is this normal and/or has anyone else experienced this? I don't want to spring for another $80 gas cap on EBAY but am worried that it will unscrew when I'm riding and fall out...

Thoughts?

I've never heard of that. A new cap might be all you can do. But maybe someone else has better knowledge/advice

Sounds as if a rubber seal has hardened to me. Can you just replace the seal?

Don't accelerate so hard...LOL Seriously, double check the rubber... it needs to be soft and pliable...

Lightbulb I had this happen on a Sportster once.

Google rattling gas cap. Something about putting it on the bench with a screwdriver and a hammer. it disables the ratchet feature. of course you want to make sure that the victory logo is in the right position before you do it.
