Default Help identifying model year of a V92C?!

I'm considering buying this V92. The seller is several hours away so I haven't seen the bike in person yet. He claims the bike is a 2002 model, but after looking at the pictures I'm not sure. I thought that the oil cooler was smaller and mounted up high starting in 2002. Does that also mean that this engine is not the Freedom engine? I've been looking around online and I also don't see this color combination in 2002.

Any help would be appreciated. I may drive to see it this weekend and would like to be as informed as possible before I get there. Thanks.

If you can get the seller to supply you with the VIN code, you can determine the model year. If you don't practice reading the codes, you can use a free online VIN decoder.

As for the rest of your questions, I personally have no idea, just trying to help with the year.

Good Luck, its a nice looking ride.

Howdy MH1,
I'm a little vague on the 2002 and earlier models but ridinman is correct. The decal on left upper frame should give u vin and engine info to include if it's a freedom. I think there is one more tag on it as well. I'm out of state on work so can't go look on mine. If I'm not mistaken they went to the smaller oil cooler on the freedom because it was cooling too well and it reduced oil capacity by a quart. The v92 freedom has larger looking heads and looks beefier from side. You should also see only two holes on the primary cover vs 3 in a triangle. at first glance I said he's wrong on the engine but reading up they did start switching to it in 2002 but I don't think it's the case with that one. From what I heard as long as he had the tranny upgrade from Vic the only shortfall would be electrical power. Plenty of folks on here running 2002s. If you get a good deal do it. If not, plenty of 2003s and 2004s starting to pop up for around 5000 in the upper 20k mileage.

Good luck and keep us posted

Doesn't appear to be a freedom engine.

The big oil cooler is problem number 1. Where it's mounted is problem number 2. The bevel of the heads also give it away, but it's much harder to see in that picture. That is not a freedom engine. You can lookup the VIN if you can get it, but there should be a white tag on the frame directly behind the triple tree. It will tell you everything you need to know including month/year of manufacture. Good luck!

Mystery solved! The seller called me back with the VIN and also told me that he was mistaken about the model year. The bike is actually a 2001 model.

I have decided to pass on the bike since the freedom engine is one of the requisites for the bike I'm looking for. But if anyone is interested, they should look on Craigslist in the NW Georgia region. Everything else about the bike looks good if a 2001 model suits you.

Thanks for your responses. They gave me assurance to keep pressing for more info and saved me a road trip that would have ended in disapointment.
