Default Fairing

I just put on this Memphis Shades batwing, I decided to try a 9" windshield, and added night shades dots trim.

The 4 clamps on the forks seem to be aluminum, with smallish, maybe 1/4" cap screws (use 3/16 allen wrench). What do you suppose I should torque them to? or just snug them?

I also put bags on it.

Picture below:

I didn't get the lower deflectors, if I like the fairing I'll add them later.

Check out Rifle farings for the lowers. Very high qulity for the price.

Overall Iím happy with the lowers as it makes a much more comfortable ride on the highway. I would go on a coast to coast trip now, before I was leery about it as it was to fatiguing with all the buffeting.

please let me know how these work, I just bought a new Vegas 8-ball and after riding a CBR1100xx for 8 years I'm not used to all this wind resistance.

I may not get around to taking it for a spin till saturday but I'll let you know what I think of it. I suspect I will still have wind blasting up from underneath because I haven't put lower wind deflectors on it. I did have a small (about 17") windshield from the previous owner on this bike, and it was only good for keeping bugs off, not much effect on wind.

I've not had a bike without a full fairing since my 1971 H1 that I sold in the early '80's, so I know what you mean about wind blast.

Thanks for the pictures of the Rifle lowers installed on your bike, Miles. I'm sort of torn between the Memphis ones and the ones you have.

Torque till tight. They only hold fairing in place so you really don't have to go nuts with getting them tight. Ride a good days worth and check when you get home.

I don't have lowers on mine. No buffeting issues. There is quite a bit of adjustability in these batwings with the slotted holes in the clamps. Between being able to move the top/bottom angle, you can play around with the height by moving it up or down on the forks.
It took some riding, and several adjustments, but finally got it set just right.
Recently swapped my 5" shield for an 8" from Long Ride Shields that has the flip at the top.

So there is quite a lot of wind blast coming from underneath. I tried adjusting the fairing but didn't seem to work for me.

I ordered the fairing deflectors and lower wind deflectors, and should be able to get those and try them out next week.

We'll see if that helps things.

Diveroger,

The extra deflectors and the lowers cut down the wind that was coming up under the fairing quite well. It still isn't as good as a fully faired bike. At one point I was riding low speed behind a truck with a lot of head wind and I felt the lowers were maybe blowing the forks around some.

I got the black lowers. After putting them on, I realized the clear ones are probably better as the black ones will block the front turn signals depending on where they are mounted. Oh well, I'm still new at this cruiser stuff...
