Default 2007 vegas 8 ball noisy engine or transmision

it has stage 1 exhasut motor sounds like metal on metal or gears not meshing right when u pull cultch it reduces this noise level in half when i bought the bike new i had them put on the stage one exhast it ran bad sometimes wouldnt start took it back well at lest it would start still ran bad took it to a different shop they got it rite when the exhaust was changed the original shop only did half the fueling and computer rerajustment i think it was the cumputer side they forgot while it was running poorly the oil level increased and there was strong gas smell in oil iam woundering if have any bearing or gear damage

Pretty much sounds like typical trans lash to me. Even if they had the thing set up so rich it would not run; they could not put enough fuel in it to harm anything
