Default suspension help

Is it just me or am I just to heavy for the spring rate of my 2013 High Ball? It bottoms to much and sometimes so bad I can see how spokes may loosen or break. I'm at about 250lbs with gear. I was told the rear travel is only 3 inches. when I sit on it I'm using almost 2 inches. I tried adjusting the spring preload but thats a pain, and I'm affraid of stripping the treads cause its just so hard to turn the adjuster. Anyone try a differnt shock or fork springs?

I'm about the same and I find the spring rate on all the new steel frame cruisers way too stiff. Oddly, I rode a Boardwalk with the wife on back and then the spring felt pretty good. But yeah, then they are prone to bottom out over even relatively mild potholes and such.

You can get a 1" long version from Victory that used to be used on the Kingpin. Not only has it more travel, but is less tightly wound and feels good passenger or no. Some here have been looking into a Penske replacement. That would surely be great, but pricey.

Did you have the rear tire off the ground while you adjusting the rear shock? You need to take the weight off of it...

I'll try adjusting the spring with the tire off the ground. How about the forks? Anyone respring them yet?

Default suspension upgrades

conventional damper rod forks usually need tuning, on my 06 sportster, prolly the cheapest suspension Hxxxxx could buy i bottomed a lot and weigh 175. adding fluid + or changing the viscosity and a spring change can help but damper rods are 40's no tech and are not easy to get a good setup. if more preload does not work a new shock setup for YOU will. i put a penske on my hammer + the ride is amazing, they are $$$ but built to order with quality. racetech and others may have cartridge kits which will work well when set up for you. theres lots of threads on suspensions especially on Hxxxxx forums as their suspensions are poor, said kindly!!! depends on what you want and are willing to $$$$, keeping the bike a while makes better stuff worthwhile
