Default 2004 Victory Touring Cruiser

Bike shimmys (tank slaps) in medium speed turn. Replaced tires, installed front end stabeliser. Still have issue, but a little better. Where can I obtain fork valving that might help for my 2004 Vic Touring Cruiser?

I can dig around (check the V92 forum for FORK SERVICING), I know I got a link somewhere of a good swap out that is said to really sweeten the front end BUT let me ask, have you changed the fork oil? I was amazed at the difference on my TC at only 15K since the last service. Unless your still the first owner, no telling what weight may have made it in and I can attest that these forks work the oil harder than I thought. After 15K on mine, looked like it had been in there 50,000 miles... Went back to stock vic fork oil and have been pretty happy.

On the flip side of that, what speeds are Med and how far are you laying it down before the shimmy starts... I have got a couple rude awakenings on mine but it was usually around 65-70 in a long sweeper where I initially did not shift my body weight and just leaned harder into the curve when the shimmy started. Havent had a problem at lower speeds and tighter turns.

I'd be checking out the back end too-there are a lot of little thing that can all effect the cornering-How many miles do you have on the bike? Adjust the sag in the rear shock,ever had the rear shock rebuilt? Check tire pressure? Get it on a lift and check play in the swing arm bushings & steering bearings and make sure your rear tire's aligned. My 03TCD was a bit stiff but loved being pushed through the corners.

I must admit that I'm noticing the shimmy is worse the faster I travel. Also I noticed it can happen at speeds usually 70 to 90 and up in a turn when I have the bike leaned over just this side of dragging the floor boards. I notice if I move up from the seat to sit on the back of the gas tank, the problem disapates as if the front end is too light. It seems to get better when I remove the windshield and the side wind deflectors.

I have changed the fork oil a few times in the past most recently last year when a racing mechanic reworked/fabricated fork valving for me in an attempt to aleviate the problem. That too made the issue better. What fork oil weight do you recommend? Do you know where I might acquire a fork brace? Couldn't find one on line.

I looked into Rickor valving, but the don' make the product for 45mm forks (actually 44.84mm).

Not sure of the ground clearance on your model. but if it's anything like an X bike and you are riding 90+ mph at the point of dragging boards, you are simply on the wrong machine in the wrong venue. You should be getting paid to ride Superbikes.

If you sit on tank and all gets better I would check

front wheel bearing buy taking wheel off bike and check.
If you can get front end off ground have some one hold bike and now grab front wheel and pull. You might have bad triple tree bearings of there loose.

Most all shimmys come from the back end and go forward. So like the man said check shock for being weak check tire for air pressure even get back wheel off ground and spin it with one hand and hold and look at the tread. Don't run the bike to do that.
If you check rear swing arm pull tire and with one hand on each side of swing arm see if you can move it side to side.

If still not finding anything check rear motor mount bolts.

Good deal, a little more info and looks like were there! From what I've read in the past our rear shock does not support what your pushing it through and sounds like it's reaching its limit with regards to wear and how your riding it. Have to agree with Saddlbag & Byten2it. I think if you trim your shield down a couple inches you might see a bit of improvement and the fork deflectors absolutely are adding to it as I noticed a good bit of differnced once I added mine. Not going to rule out wheel balance, just replaced both tires and she does shimmy a bit more than before. I can't find the thread that has the fork spring replacement recommendations but it might be on the other forum that charges an annual fee. Front bearings are a low cost point to trouble shoot from... Keep us posted on what you come up with!
