Cool Hey Victor folks!

First, I'm Paulie... glad that I found yalls Victory forums!! I can't wait to dive in and learn how to customize my scooter and just give it an edge over other Vegas's that I see around town.

Here's about me:

I'm a late 30something rider, been on a Harley Dyna and my favorite Sportster 1200Custom; I love that bike. Enjoy IT more than the bigger scooters that I've ridden or owned!! I live in Austin Texas, and hope to do some rides with anyone in the local metro area... I AM A RIDER! I ride long and hard, and think my new scooter will be a little more COMFY than my sporty.... a little more POWERFUL then her... and hopefully, in the end anyway, a little more SEXY than the HD!

Once I get approved and have full access, I can't wait to see how y'all are customizing these scooters... and also, how to kill or change a couple things that I dislike about the stock features of the Vegas.

About the Victory I wanna ride:

So here's the deal... my close friend has a 2004 Victory Vegas with 12,ooo on the odometer. He wants $4000. Blue book retail is $5000, trade in $3400... so, I think we're close to a good deal; if I could get him to go the friend price at 3k I would be SOLD SOLD SOLD!! However, he has to get what he can get out of her... so I think he will be stuck around $4000, period.

It has a pop pop pop pop on deceleration, ide and light acceleration. The bike begs for throttle when cold started, but once it's warm runs and idles just fine without any engine hiccups. (Aside from my carb pop...) I think it's running lean, but haven't turned one wrench on her YET.

My buddy was told the pop was because the last owner messed with the pipes.... he isn't engine saavy, but I'm thinking the old owner want her louder and took out the baffles all together.... maybe replaced them with aftermarket, but because of the decel pop I'm thinking they are just NIL.

That being said, does the community here have members who trade and sell parts a lot?? Cause I bet I'll need stock baffles.... depending on what the pipe make is, actually....

But regardless the bike runs strong and I feel that it's an easy fix. Either fudge or change the pipes.... play with the carberator (Lol, this year is a carb model, no?? gosh, actually I don't even know that info yet!!)... or maybe jets, etc... if it's EFI, then I hope it's baffles!!! Can't be too hard tho, right???

Also can anyone point me to where I am start seeing what's being done with the o4 Vegas models as far as customizing?? I would like a 2up bike... that looks badass while solo... the bike is bigger than my sporty, so I could see myself running a fat front tire.... prolly a different size rear than my HD, BUT on the sporty I run a 16" rear and the same 160 16" front! It looks great on a small bike... anyway, I like the fat front look and this bike is bigger so.....

This might be the wrong way, but I could see myself running a smaller tank.... sporty(???!!!???) style tank.... smaller fender than still can take a 2up seat....

And gosh tho, I hate the handlebars, controls and front forks on this bike. I'd love, when $$$ allows, to replace the front forks with something BEEFY; IMO, like the bike should have stock!! A wide glide with thick MM tubes.... holding a fat front tire.

Ok, I'll shutup with this book so far; and hope for some replies.... some pointing to areas of the forum I might like... concerning 2004 Vegas's.... customization.... and my pop pop pop issue.

How easy are these bikes to wrench? Is his asking price OK? Should I pull the trigger? If you HAD to say 2 things u dislike about your Victory, what is it? And, when Victory do you ride???

Thanks - can't wait to dive into this forum, victory's, and hopefully..... my new 2oo4 Vegas!

Yeah I'm quite fond of the Snap Crackle Pop of a hotrod exhaust, can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs as they say

An Idle Air Valve from Lloydz allows you to tune it in or out a little.

Had a nice little ride tonight. Been raining here over a week now and after working all day I needed my Victory hit.
Roads still very wet so light on the throttle, went and caught up with a few mates. Came out of our meeting and my Vegas was looking very wet. Must've been a downpour whilst I was inside.
Didn't hear it...my Airhawk R soaking wet, stuck it in my saddlebags while the bike warmed up.
Then went and filled up with mid grade fuel and rode home.
Still can't think of anything I don't like.
Oh I get wet when it rains, but that happens on most bikes, not into fairings so maybe a bit wetter than some but hey its only water...

Welcome form southern Oregon. I too ride a 2004 Vegas and love it, My has a duel seat for two up, my wife likes the seat. I have a slight pop if I let off the throttle fast but I think it sounds kind of nice. Don't think I will change a thing right now.
Have fun riding her,

Minimum throttle movement between shifts = minimum popping.
