Got a STUPID deal on an '07 hammer...... seriously

I've had my eyes open for a while looking for something to replace my learner bike(VN750), and the hammer was at the top of the list.

My in-laws are die-hard harley owners, but i gravitated more toward victory after test driving a few..... although i do love the fatboy.

This deal popped up a few days ago on CL, and i couldn't pass it up. It was actually a package deal for the hammer and a 2006 VTX1300. My uncle went in on the deal for the honda, and I ended up paying $3250 for the hammer with a dead battery and a supposed bad fuel pump. I'll find out exactly what's wrong with it after the battery charges enough to properly diagnose. They said they drove it a month or 2 ago but didnt put the trickle charger on it. It came with new front blinkers to repace the dry rotted ones on it. So far i know it needs new handle bar mount bushings and a right side cover that says "100".

I had to clean the carb on the honda, because the jets and bowls were completely sludged up. I also confirmed the fuel pump being bad on the hammer for the same reason. I'm wondering if i can take it apart myself and clean it....

update: I ordered new throttle cables, because the push cable was broken, and i snapped the pull cable while trying to free it up. I saved the clutch cable by greasing it. I cleaned the throttle bodies, re-wired the quick-charge harness to appear more professional/factory, installed new front blinker assemblies, and reinstalled the passenger pegs. I'm chomping at the bit while waiting for the cables to arrive.

Thanks. Yea the first mods(after repairs) will be handlebar risers and lowering bars. Then I'm probably changing out the loud ass ness pipes for a 2:1.

Congrats on a great find!
Looks like they kept the passenger pegs as well which is kinda random, but you could spend $3000 on a set and still be in good shape on your deal here :D

When you are going through it, give the rubber throttle body adapter a hard look. They tend to dry out and form cracks which will give you some idle and running problems, especially if this bike hasn't had a lot of use in the past 7 years. You probably also want to pull the tank and check/clean the throttle bodies themselves. Amazing how much better these older model Hammers run after doing this.

The rear pegs actually came in the bag of extras.

I definitely plan on going through the bike with a fine-toothed comb once the prelimenary issue is fixed.

Wow! Not quite as good as one of them barn finds one hears about but not too far from it either. Killer deal. Just having the cash on hand at the right time can make all the difference.

Just out of curiosity; did the stock side covers come with it? Is this your first Victory? What The Wolf said is correct and critical on these pre-08 Vic's. Gotta get in there and clean those TB's every so often.

You can probably get some good baffles for those pipes to quiet them down but you are right about the 2-1 pipes plus you will gain some HP/TQ to boot.

Congrats! I think there are quite a few Vic riders down your way in TX. For some reason I'm thinking Noemtz lives in that area. Hmm... maybe not. Is Katy anywhere near San Antonio? Strokers is another one out that way but they are in Dallas.

Anyway; let the fun begin and welcome to the forum. If you need a service manual; check out the link in my sig line to find one closest to what you might need.

Not sure exactly. Somewhere around 33k i think.

Darn good find even if needs a Battery & Fuel Pump I would have jumped on it even if would have to beg forgiveness when got it home .. :)
She was pretty pissed at first...

In retrospect, i would have done it differently. The previous owner did it that way, and it's probably the reason the hammer's handlebar bushings are worn out.

So i've put about 500 miles on it already. After about 150 miles it runs fine. I got a cheese wedge from another member, some tank decals, and replaced the ugly ass rear blinkers. I also got a RAM handlebar mount for the phone/GPS.
