I've had my eyes open for a while looking for something to replace my learner bike(VN750), and the hammer was at the top of the list.
My in-laws are die-hard harley owners, but i gravitated more toward victory after test driving a few..... although i do love the fatboy.
This deal popped up a few days ago on CL, and i couldn't pass it up. It was actually a package deal for the hammer and a 2006 VTX1300. My uncle went in on the deal for the honda, and I ended up paying $3250 for the hammer with a dead battery and a supposed bad fuel pump. I'll find out exactly what's wrong with it after the battery charges enough to properly diagnose. They said they drove it a month or 2 ago but didnt put the trickle charger on it. It came with new front blinkers to repace the dry rotted ones on it. So far i know it needs new handle bar mount bushings and a right side cover that says "100".
I had to clean the carb on the honda, because the jets and bowls were completely sludged up. I also confirmed the fuel pump being bad on the hammer for the same reason. I'm wondering if i can take it apart myself and clean it....
update: I ordered new throttle cables, because the push cable was broken, and i snapped the pull cable while trying to free it up. I saved the clutch cable by greasing it. I cleaned the throttle bodies, re-wired the quick-charge harness to appear more professional/factory, installed new front blinker assemblies, and reinstalled the passenger pegs. I'm chomping at the bit while waiting for the cables to arrive.
