Hello all, I am Dan. Live in the Hampton roads area of Virginia. I currently ride a 2001 Yamaha Vstar 1100 classic but it is time to upgrade. I am looking for a touring bike and wasn't very fond of the Victory vision. I was at the dealer and they showed my the cross country tour, and I really like that one. Im test riding one tomorrow.

Blest with victory and peace, may the heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation.
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Whats up Dan and welcome from Chesapeake VA. I ride a Vision and am VERY glad you have already decided to pass up one of the best bikes on the road.. It makes mine more unique and not one of the pack...lol Im kiddin of course, who did you set your test ride up with? All Out or Sunrise?

Do you have some questions before hand about the bike and/or dealers or just looking for some general info on the forums here?

A couple things to note is easy/minimum maint required, I visit the dealer mainly to BS and pick up an occasional part I didnt feel like ordering and second, depending on what your looking for in the bike Stock, vs Stage 1 performance addons (all meet EPA so read into that) and Mods that you can do yourself or have done at a few choice wrench shops will all give your ride a whole differnt personality. From the demo days I must say I did not mind riding the stage 1 stuff at all. Stock is stock of course and what many of us have done on down the road for minimum dollars have yielded substanial performance. If your military, don't forget to ask about your 1000 off. Give a shout if you need something localy, be glad to help.

Enjoy the ride tomorrow.... Tim

before you buy
get them to throw in the 5oo mile check up. That will save you a couple hundred dollars.
Have them take you on a tour of the shop ask how long the tech have been working on Vic's. Ask the tech.
Try to get 20% off all parts you buy.
Get a free "shop shirt" they can afford it.
Before you drive off make sure bag lids seal tight
Check antenna to see its tight

Tim, I'm going to all out since it is close to me. We also got the wife's can am from there. I quests one of the main things I wanted to ask, is there anything that I need to look for or anything that might be hidden that the dealer won't tell me. For example, on my vstar, the dealer didn't tell me that in order for me to change the oil, you have to take off one of the exhaust pipes. While it may not be an issue at first, after a while it got difficult when stuff started rusting and getting hot. But while it might not have been a deal breaker, it would have been nice to know.

BTW Tim, I just noticed on your sig it says retired SCPO. Where we're you at? I'm an AMC at FRCMA at Oceana. I hope the test ride goes well. If so and I decide to get one, we will have to go for a ride brother.

I doubt there is anything they can hide from you that you can get answered here. Service on these bikes consist of the 1K if you want (I changed my own oil then had them do the rest, found a couple things wrong so worth it) and from there its oil changes at 5K which is about 30 min taking your sweet time. To me, and other XCT owners can chime in on this, is deciding what you want out of the power plant in terms of sound and performance. Going back to what I said earlier, you can go with Vic gear (stage 1 exhaust, flash, performance filter) which meets EPA requirements but is not bad over stock, has nice pep and is quiet yet got a nice bark when you hit it. Or, you can get a performance game plan together here and add your own. Either way, you got a bike that will grow with you for pennys on the dollar in terms of HP and Torque improvements on down the road. I think the XCT is almost turn keep buy and ride. ALLOUT has always been a good shop for me although they can be a little rough around the edges at times their service is always solid. When is your appt for the ride? May try to get down there.. My neighbor just sold his CanAm but it was a cool ride.. It will make your new Vic a good stablemate... lol...

My test ride is at 1000 weather permitting. They won't do test rides if the roads are wet. It looked good earlier today. Was only supposed to rain in the pm but now they have a 30% chance tomorrow so we will see.
