I currently ride a 2011 Kawasaki Vulcan 1700 Classic. I was thinking about buy a 2011 Kingpin in crimson but would have lost too much money on the trade in. I fell in love with bike. I'll probably wait a year and make the change. Hopefully they will bring back the crimson red in 2013. Figured I would join the board and learn about the Victory's.

Welcome from a KP owner in Ohio. You might want to look at the used market for your new scooter. I picked up an 07 with 2600 miles for about 1/2 what the original owner paid. If you llike the "new bike" smell and want a warranty, that's cool, but there are a lot of good low milage bikes out there to be had.
Good luck, and post some pics once you buy.

Robrown,

I was happy with my Classic till I rode the Kingpin. It would have cost me five thousand to change bikes and I could not justify the loss. The reason I was interested in the 2011 is because the dealer said they changed the transmission in 2011 and made it a lot smoother.

I have heard about the transmission noise on older bikes, but I don't think it's that bad. All bikes have a bit of a whine at speed, so it's what you are used to. My bike is an 07, and I do not notice anything that makes me worried. I test drove a 2011 before getting mine, and it didn't sound that much different to me. I do recommend a bike with the 6th gear though. You don't use it on back roads, but if you ride interstate type roads, or don't have a lot of sharp turns, it is really nice. (If you do get a new bike, they all have six speeds.)
I worry that they are not going to have a ton of offerings on new Kingpins in the future. There is only one color this year, and I think they are trying to push folks to the cross series of bikes. Hopefully I am wrong, but it seems odd that they do not have many choices. As for your trade, I missed the fact you have a 2011 Kawi.
Good luck, and stay safe,
Rob

Rob,

The dealer said that for what ever reason it seems they bring the red back every other year. The pearl white is nice, just not my taste. I really loved the crimson. I figured I will wait till this time next year and use my Classic. I don't thing the trade in allowance will be that much different. I think the big hit is as soon as you leave the dealership.

I wasn't aware of the fact they bring out the red every other year. I know they had it in 08, 09 with pearl white, 10, and 11. They always had a two tone, white with something, a solid color, and black. This year it is only a two tone, white and stone. That coupled with the fact they quit with the KP 8ball, makes me nervious that the KP days are numbered.
I have heard good things about the Vulcan bikes, so I am sure you won't be suffering too much while you wait for your Vic.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob,

My complaints with the Vulcan are that the shifting is very clunky (the kingpin was smooth)the acceleration is lacking (the Kingpin had good pickup even in sixth) and the Vulcan throws off a lot of heat (I did not notice that with the Kingpin) Don't get me wrong the Classic is not a bad bike. I just found that the Kingpin did not have the quirks that the Classic has.
