Default Need advice buying Hammer

Hi everyone. I'm a newbie that needs advice on getting a Victory. I actually just finished my MSF course and just obtained my class M here in California. I've been going through this whole debate in my head about first bikes and all that.

I've always wanted to own a bike, and was close to buying a Yamaha R6 a while back (before I got my license). I'm kind of glad I didn't since I fell in love with Victory when I somehow ran into a few pictures Scott's AMS bikes at Conquest Customs. Oh, and some specs about me, if it would help some of new. Medium build; 5'10 and ~180lbs.

Well, I kept debating in my head whether to go a used cruiser of a different brand and learn on that, but I keep thinking that it would be such a waste of money to invest $4k on a bike I just wouldn't be happy with, even though I'm still new to riding.

Well, I found a used Victory Hammer about 100 miles south, down in San Diego for under $7k and am interested in checking it out, but the mileage is already 37,xxx. I've read that these bikes are basically built to last, but just wanted everyone's opinion.

My other option is a used Vegas I found in Indiana with low miles, and a bit cheaper, but I'm really looking to get something with a fatter rear tire since I'm eventually going to have Scott work on it, and it seems that it would save money in the long run.

I also can't seem to find too many used Hammers under 8k. I'm opting to buy cash, since I was never a big fan of financing.

Here's a link to the Hammer I'm currently considering:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. BTW, didn't really know whether to post here or the WTB section, so I posted in the wrong place, sorry!

An '06 or newer Hammer is a GREAT bike but if you like the wider rear tire you may want to also consider the Jackpots as they are the Vegas with the wider rear tire (and a few other minor changes).

As to being new to biking...Buy what YOU want and don't look back. I was in your position at the beginning of the year (never owned a bike but was shopping EVERYTHING Victory and H-D). In the end I decided to buy a Ness XC and have been EXTREMELY pleased with that decision. Some said that it was too big a bike to "start" with but others said it should not be a problem. I am 5'10" and 195lbs. Do a search on my prior posts to get some good info on my search progress.

You should be able to find 06 (and newer) Hammer's in the $6K to $8K range becoming more available as it gets cooler and people realize that the riding season may be shortly coming to an end for them. Look in all the online bike site (autotrader's version, choppers, eBay, etc).

It's not just any victory.... It's MY Victory!
