Newbie torn between to bikes
I apologize for the long-winded introduction, but I need some good advice, so I thought I give you the whole story...
I am 53 years old and just learned to ride and bought my first motorcycle (a Hyosung GV250) 2 years ago. As you can probably guess, I'm itching to buy the infamous second (real) bike, and will probably do so before next spring.
I can't afford a new motorcycle, so I started going to dealers to sit on used bikes a few months ago, and had pretty much settled on a Vulcan 1600 Nomad.
I live in a rural area outside of Chicago and the closest Victory dealer to me had no used bikes and didn't even have a new Kingpin that I could sit on. The other day, I found a used car/motorcycle dealer that had a 2005 V92TC and a 2006 Kingpin in stock and went and checked them out. I fit nicely on both bikes, and though they are obviously quite different from each other, without having ridden them, I love 'em both. Bottom line is, I no longer want a Kawasaki.
So, now I need some advice on what would be the better Victory for me. I am 6'1" and weigh 220 lbs. My wife is an amazonian 6'2" and weighs about the same as I do. The main use for this bike will be commuting 10 miles to and from the train station to get me into Chicago every day, but I would also like to get a Voyager trike kit and take a few long trips with my wife (she has some equilibrium issues and should not get on a 2-wheeled vehicle). The Touring Cruiser has some nice big bags on it, but I know that if I get the right exhaust, I can put some sizable bags on the Kingpin also.
If anybody out there has done some significant riding on both the V92TC and Kingpin, I would appreciate your input. The 2 used bikes I am looking at each have about 7-8,000 miles on the them and cost 7-8,000 bucks. The Touring Cruiser has the bags, highway bars, windshield, etc. and the Kingpin is bare, but I have no problem building on it to make it what I want.
Thanks in advance!
