Default Aspiring Vic Owner with a Question

Hi everyone,

New member - not yet an owner.

The other day I was VERY close to pulling the trigger on a 2000 V92SC. Coming here to research common issues and general enthusiasm may have saved my bacon. I learned about the trans issues pretty quickly, and a follow up call to the seller was less than reassuring. He is the second owner, and had heard nothing about it...

The dealer I checked with said the only way to find out for sure if the kit and cushion drive fixes had been installed was to bring it in. Guess it wasn't an official recall so he couldn't look it up with the VIN?

Is there any sure fire way for myself or the seller to confirm ourselves? There's really no dealer close to either of us, and we both work hard, making it difficult to carve out time in our schedules to take it in...

Thanks, and I look forward to being a contributing member!

Any insight anyone can offer is greatly appreciated.

There were a lot of recalls back then. If you can get the vin number the dealer can run it on the computer and tell you what was done.
You can try here but you might have to register it free so no big deal

The thread below has a picture in it that shows where to verify the transmission upgrade. If the speed sensor is where the tape is it was not upgraded.

Awesome. Thanks Ammo. I'll pass this on to the seller and see what we find.

I did end up calling another shop today and they ran the VIN. He said all of the recalls for this bike had been done, but the tranny upgrade was not listed - said this bike might just be outside of the production range that required it...

I guess im still a little confused as to if it was all 2000 V92SC bikes or not. He just didnt sound certian, and the other tech I talked to seemed pretty sure it was all 2000 V92SCs.

Back to the boards for some more searching :-)

Thanks again!

Keiths if you decide not to buy (not hoping for that because I love mine and sure you would) I would like to know where and how much. That's only if you don't. Just curious. I ride mine like it's stolen and couldn't tell you if any recall has been done. It had been great to me so far.

I'm pretty set that I want a Vic, but starting to think I should wait until a 2002+ comes along...

Sure do love this 2000 though...

I've put 8k on mine since we got it. So far so good. No real problems to speak of. Other than not finding the upgraded charging system. What's the price on the SC?

$4500 with 21k miles and some decent add ons... Way over book, but its been on the market for a month so I'm pretty sure I can get it down to where its in line with kbb and nada. That looks like $3500 or so... Right where I want to be.

Odd thing is - there appears to be only 2 pre '05s for sale in So Cal. I was hoping to find more of a selection in the sub $5000 range...

I should mention that the other one is quoted as a 2000 v92 deluxe, but that one has been clearly neglected and I cant find any references to the deluxe model in the 2000 model line up...
